KATE LESTER INTERIORS
@klinteriors
Kate Lester is a Southern California-based designer who attended USC’s prestigious Marshall School of Business, and went on to study design and architecture at Otis College in Los Angeles before launching Kate Lester Interiors in 2010. Thriving at the intersection of livable luxury, humor, and realism, Kate believes that the homes she designs should always be carefully crafted, thoughtfully curated, and a direct reflection of the people who inhabit them. With a diversely talented design team in her studio, and two retail stores in Southern California, Kate is thrilled to be spreading her unique design vision with the masses.
MY ROWE DESIGN BY KATE LESTER
The inspiration for Kate’s design initially came from the intersection of art, color and pattern in a space, three elements the designer feels are absolutely essential. “On a sticky note I wrote the words ‘Art + Soul,’ and the direction for our space was born,” says Kate, adding, “I wanted the space to feel curated, collected and full of layers.” A palette of deep green, blues and accents of saturated reds and golds is interspersed with patterned neutrals to create a living space full of intriguing design moments. “I think over the past few years there has been a shift away from risk-taking and rule breaking in the design world,” explains the designer, who often feels that “so much of what we see feels safe, sometimes even boring.” In her My Rowe Design, textured textiles have a bold conversation with high contrast artwork and eye-catching wallpaper, resulting in a space that’s as lively as it is sophisticated. “I wanted to do something different, shake it up and have some fun,” says Kate.
“LAYERING COLORS, TEXTURES, PATTERNS, MIXING METALS, AND BLENDING THE OLD WITH THE NEW IS WHAT GREAT DESIGN IS ALL ABOUT.”
Imagining who might inhabit this space, Kate thinks of “someone fabulous, obviously!” For her, the inspiration was less about who might live there and more about the feelings the space might evoke. A warm, comfortably chic environment was the ultimate goal. The warm wood grain of the Theory End Table and Cocktail Table join a large collection of artisan-style ceramics in adding an organic feel to the space. One of Kate’s favorite pieces is the Grady Sofa, upholstered in a strikingly geometric patterned fabric. “The clean lines and tailored details are so perfectly designed to handle a fun fabric…it’s such a versatile piece,” she says. While bold and exciting, Kate’s My Rowe Design is also a welcome breath of fresh air. “In a world where content and media are constantly thrown at us,” says Kate, “to get a second or two from someone where [people] just stop and ponder a space… that’s design gold.”
Place to Find Inspiration:
I am always inspired in Mexico, from the pigments and textures of the textiles to the patterned tiles and the palette of the natural landscape, ocean and sea life. It’s endless inspiration for me on how to take risks and to better mix and use color in meaningful ways.
Unique Collectible: Really weird art. My favorite piece is a charcoal sketch of two sumo wrestlers in a vintage wood frame
I bought from an antique store in Palm Springs. It reminds me every day that one of the most important parts of my job is to take risks and encourage my clients to think outside of the box and trust the process.
Go-to Gathering:
I cannot lie, I am a sucker for a long table with friends at a killer Mexican restaurant. Tacos, tequila and good conversation are all this girl needs. Add in some mariachis and the night is perfection!

Entertaining was foremost in Rydhima’s mind when creating her My Rowe Design space. “I wanted to create a space that was all about socializing and celebrating,” says the designer, aligning with “my inner desire to design a speakeasy or a cocktail bar.” With gatherings in mind, Rydhima focused on a moody palette, heavy on texture and pattern for a luxurious, elevated aesthetic. Beautiful conversation pieces such as the Florence Sofa and Reena Modular create a welcoming layout in which guests can socialize and mingle easily. “The Reena Modular can be designed in so many fun combinations,” says Rydhima, who favors a “tete-a-tete” arrangement. “The Florence Sofa,” she adds, “is sleek, has curves, has a contemporary profile but also is extremely comfortable, which is a rare find.”
“I LOVE THROWING COCKTAIL PARTIES, AND THAT IS WHAT I ENVISIONED MYSELF OR A CLIENT DOING IN THIS SPACE.”
Ultimately, Rydhima’s inspiration was about creating a mood, a cozy and enveloping experience for guests to enjoy. “One of the best ways of achieving that,” says the designer, “is by mixing materials, textures and patterns.” The light blue of the Florence Sofa stands out against a gorgeous accent wall that combines wallpaper and wooden details, adding a homey and cozy touch that brings warmth and softness to the space. “The series of the mirrors on the adjacent wall brings the glam quotient up,” says Rydhima, but “the earthy and jewel tones of the Reena Modular and the other pieces balances it out, keeping the space unfussy and casual.” The combination of these elements imbue the room with a sense of welcoming luxury that makes it a perfect place to gather and mingle in style.

Gatehouse No. 1
@gatehouseno1
Gatehouse is a 10,000 square foot local retail store, furniture showroom and interior design studio located at the base of the grand Mount Timpanogos in Orem, Utah. Gatehouse was established in 1995 by Doug and Stephanie Holdaway and now includes members of the family’s second generation. Their showroom is a mix of timeless, classic furniture pieces and trending accessories, bringing their customers a shopping experience that inspires. A talented and experienced team of 8 in-house
senior designers and several junior and assistant designers is always ready to guide clients to create the perfect mix of pieces for their homes. The Gatehouse team constantly refreshes and restyles their showroom floor for maximum inspiration, while also completing full interior projects, furniture installations and home styling.
PHOTOS: Rebekah Westover Photography (@rebekahwestoverphotography)The goal for this project was to blend timeless style with Gatehouse’s current favorite materials, such as heavy textured boucles, tweeds and warm neutrals in a specific tonal color palette. “We also pulled inspiration from our home state of Utah with large mountains, beautiful valleys, and a strong emphasis on nature,” says the design team. This aesthetic, along with a few textural rugs, created the starting point from which the team selected their favorite Rowe and Robin Bruce frames, fabrics and casegoods, many of which are currently featured in their design projects and on the floor at their Gatehouse retail showroom. “The dark, moody color palette allows all of the lighter fabrics, wood tones and textures to pop off this deep background,” says the Gatehouse team, “while creating a warm and inviting space that draws you in to come in and stay a while.”
“WE WANTED TO BLEND TRADITIONAL DESIGN STYLE AND TIMELESS FABRICS LIKE LINENS, VELVETS, ANTIQUE BRASS ACCENTS AND LEATHERS WITH CURRENT TRENDS WE ARE LOVING RIGHT NOW.”
The Gatehouse team imagined a cozy vacation space for their My Rowe Design, with plenty of comfortable and large scale seating to allow ample space for entertaining. The space is “still cozy enough for one or two people to stretch out and read a book or enjoy a favorite tv series,” say the designers. The Caspian Sectional provides a larger seating area for many to gather comfortably, or a place for a few to simply lay down and relax. A smaller, more intimate seating area centers around the Madeline Sofa, Mally Chair and a cluster of Cleo Ottomans that offers space for quiet conversation. Finally, a table seating area that features a pair of casually upholstered Neoma Benches and the chic marble-topped Journey End Table creates a fun space to enjoy a glass of wine, set up a snack buffet for movie nights or use for game nights and puzzles.
Place to Find Inspiration:
We always love being near an ocean and beach for a vacation, especially Hawaii. But at home we are lucky to be within just a few minutes to retreat to our beautiful mountains for a pretty drive, time on the lake boating, the ski slopes, or shopping and eating in our fabulous mountain resort towns like Sundance, Deer Valley and Park City.
Unique Collectible:
We love collecting art of all sorts of genres. We have a love for so many different styles and art allows us to mix and blend so many of these parts together.
Go-to Gathering:
We love having friends over to enjoy wine and cocktails on our deck that overlooks the town and has incredible views of the city, the lake and sunsets every evening.
