THE FIRST ANNUAL PROJECT GENERATION SYMPOSIUM was a great success with youth participating from six parishes. As a birthday present to Patriarch Bartholomew from Project Generation, we shall be sending a donation towards his new environmental center. Project co-chairs Chris and Val will be holding a special tray at the end of Liturgy. ALL ORATORICAL FESTIVAL SPEECHES are due on Sunday, February 13th. Speeches can be given to Vivian Casil in the PreKindergarten classroom or Tina Mihaltses in the Organization Room. Speeches will be returned the following Sunday, February 20. YAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT, Saturday, February 19th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. At the Cathedral of St. Paul, Hempstead. All young adults welcome. Criteria: Ages 18-35 (out of high school), 9 players per team max (6 min), 2 girls must be on each court at all times. Everyone gets to make their own teams with anyone from any church. $75 per team -or- $10 per person with no team (we will add you to a team). Deadline: February 10th, cash or check accepted (payable to The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul). Proceeds to benefit the Long Island YAL. Lunch included, Beer (21 & over). For info: Fr. JANUARY IS MEMBERSHIP DRIVE month. You should have received your membership letter in the mail by now. IN THE NEWS: The White House has announced that President Obama intends to appoint Archbishop Demetrios of America to be a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. This council brings together religious and secular leaders as well as scholars and experts in fields related to the work of faith-based and neighborhood organizations in order to make recommendations to the government on how to improve partnerships. WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE that Jim Xanthos and Frank Albers would like to offer all 7-12 year olds the opportunity to play basketball. They will hold intramurals at the church beginning in April.
