GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY RESURRECTION SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2011 – Vol. 35 #37 Rev. Fr. John Vlahos Office: (516) 671-‐‑5200 Fax: (516) 671-‐‑5205 web: www.resurrectiongoc.org ***

Acts of the Apostles: 2:1-11 pg. 62 Gospel: John 7:37-52; 8:12 pg. 63 CHURCH ORDER: Nickie Demos, Peter Koumoulis, Kathy Costas, Zefy Christopoulos, Costas Zachariadis, Gus Vlavianos. ALTAR SERVERS: All are welcome. COFFEE HOUR: Festival this weekend. No Coffee hour. TODAY IS PENTECOST - TRINITY SUNDAY. WE ALSO COMMEMORATE St. Onouphrios the Great, Peter the Athonite, Holy Martyr Antonine, John the Soldier of Egypt. FIFTY DAYS AFTER THE RESURRECTION we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles and Disciples of Christ, that is, to the Church. He had promised this. "If you love me you will keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter to be with you forever, even the Spirit of Truth... (John 14:15). When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth...He will glorify me for He will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. (John 16:12-15). The Pentecost of Old Israel, fifty days after Passover, brought great crowds to Jerusalem. The Feast commemorated the giving of the Mosaic Law to the Hebrews. The Law was what guided Israel and kept it in truth. Christ fulfilled the Law, and sends us the Holy Spirit to be our guide and keep us in truth. Thus we celebrate a New Pentecost, for all things are made new in Christ. The day marks the beginning of the Church's mission, to go and teach all the world, baptizing all in the name of the Trinity. We celebrate with the kneeling prayers at the end of the Liturgy. WE COMMEMORATE the two year memorial for Georgia Koufakis, beloved wife of John, mother of John Jr. and Shelga, Steven and Eileen, and Michael and Lynn, and grandmother of Zachary, Olivia, Emily, Katie, Kristin, Julliette, Yanni, Jeremy, Jared, Jake, and Jenna. Eternal be her memory!
