E HAVE FINALLY made it through the winter! What a tough season we've had. The winter just wanted to hang on as long as it could, didn't it? ALL of the flea markets are now open and ready for business and the shoppers are all very anxious to hit the streets and do some shopping. Just about all of the markets around the country are open and running and there are many new vendors who will be servicing shoppers. SINCE the spring season is referred to as a rebirth, it is only appropriate that our businesses also get a transformation and revitalized. Shoppers who have been hibernating all winter are going to be out in the markets and they want to see fresh, colorful and exciting merchandise. Your drab and dreary selling space needs to be freshened up. A new coat of paint or bright new decorations, signs and displays will go a long way to entice shoppers into your booth. WITH the economy still running a little sluggish we are going to see many new shoppers hitting the flea markets for value as well as a nice day out with their families. Make sure that your selling space is welcoming and appealing to these shoppers. AS vendors we need to always be aware of what the consumers are spending their money on. It is important to keep up with the hot merchandise trends. Watch the traditional retailers and see what merchandise they are promoting in their newspaper and online ads. It is more important than ever to know your market and understand what your target shopper is looking for. Having great prices on merchandise no one wants is not going to do your business any good. So, dump the dogs to gather up some spending money and invest in new and current inventory. MANY shoppers will be looking for home merchandise to improve their living spaces after a long hard winter. Others will be looking to splurge on themselves. This can mean new clothing, accessories, jewelry, footwear, cosmetics or hair care merchandise or services. Our job as vendors is to pamper the consumers this spring and make them want to spend at our businesses. WISE vendors will be scouring magazines like ours, the internet and visiting trade shows looking for the next hot thing. What are you waiting for? Spruce it up and put some spring into your sales!
