Ormiston Wire was founded in 1793 in the Reign of George III, our present King’s ancestor. They are now celebrating 230 years of business in 2023!

The company has survived (and is surviving) the Battle of Waterloo, the Great War, the Spanish Flu Pandemic, the Second World War (including having been bombed out by the Nazis) the recessions in the 1980s, Brexit, Covid 19, the war in Ukraine and now another recession.

Things have changed but they are still a family owned manufacturing company who make things which you, their customers, require.

Ormiston Wire supplied Mr Marconi with his wire for his experimental wireless telegraphy, it worked.

The new Hamleys store in Westfield extends on the original store concept and experience to bring elements of everyone’s favourite children’s brands to life. Propability were commissioned to design, build and install the main feature elements of the store working on four projects for Hasbro - Monopoly, Play Doh, Nerf and Pepper Pig as well as the Hans & Gretel fairy tale children’s dessert area.

The main fixtures including the two clad pillars for Play Doh and Monopoly really do elevate the look and feel of the store. 4 meters tall the iconic games are highlighted with props created specifically and modelled to work according to Westfield health, safety and other technical restrictions.

PROPABILITY TRANSFORMS HAMLEYS WESTFIELD FOR HASBRO AND HANS & GRETEL

The design is based on a target on its side with elements lit up to indicate were to aim. The actual fixture is like a tube, curved in such a way as to create a tunnel. It has a vinyl floor which indicates were to stand and display cases on the sides to showcase the blasters, darts and merchandise.

For the Hans & Gretel concession, Propability constructed and sculpted the entire area – due to having worked across other locations including the Regent Street store The over indulgent desserts were sculpted and painted to replicate the fairy tale theme of the brand. Making cup cakes, ice cream cones, lollipops, mushroom fairy houses, candy canes coming up from the floor etc. The canopy has a beanstalk wrapped around the supportive structure with the leaves opening up to reveal giant bean ponds with jelly beans inside. Not without its challenges there were all sorts of technical specifications to take into consideration including plumbing, electrics and a grease will be installed shortly is to provide a photo opportunity for children with their favourite character. A life size version of a camper van with the two sides at the back built with function in mind they double up as useful shelving and hanging space for products.

Monopoly was produced via a clad pillar which was made specifically to wrap around and show as little joins and lines as possible. Hard wearing and durable for longevity and footfall all four sides of the pillar show the monopoly board with a canopy above with pieces of the game hung from it sculpted in 3D. Finished in a high gloss lacquer with a light box around the feature is superbly finished and cannot be missed no matter where you are in store.

Also 4 meters in height the Play Doh tubs are formed around another pillar in store, 3 giant tubs on top of each other not provide an eye catching visual merchandising concept but are functional as the lower tubs can be used to store stock inside. With logos back and front there are also play doh characters in double sided graphics - taller than anything else in store they are truly eye catching.

The Nerf dart blasting fixture brings another interactive and experiential aspect to the store. With buttons, lights, sound effects and voiceover the nerf merchandise can be played with the scores being add up throughout the day to provide a winner of the day before the game is reset. When the button activates you have fiveseconds before everything starts up with the interactive voice over, sensor pads and scores. It restarts and is activated again by the next shopper.
