Man's Last Day On Earth Our light is heating up And those who remain, breathe their last. The Miners cannot dig deep enough And the Spacers have leapt off their planets. We are the Colders, the last to remain In our tube driven, underground homes. We are alone but remember the dream Of silver lifeboats, following the stream Of endless stars to salvation. But it was not possible. Light's barrier remained unbreachable. Now, the frozen gas is not enough To stop our crucifixion by the heat. We stumble when we meet And every goodby is the last parting. As we tire, some of us have caught on fire. All that was finished or hardly begun Will trouble no more the heat of the Sun. Carl Estrin
