Poetic Technique – Rhyme '...I'm strong to the finish 'Cause I eats me spinach.' Popeye The Sailor Man End Rhyme Most obvious of all the ways to rhyme, The unskilled do it almost all the time. Each stanza read will give example to All the skills I shall explain to you. Although I use it frequently myself, There's many a technique left on the shelf. Off Rhyme This kind of rhyme sounds less than quite exact But gives another, subtler effect. Advantages are many. It expands The bounds of choice, the boundaries of speech And can, with novelty, turn to touch Those phrases that are too much used And can give a dream fed color to your verse Which universe has never seen before. The Scattered Rhyme More worthy still than million dollar rap Can be the unexpected gap where rhyme Can be inserted in both time and space. Hold back the feeling state until, too late, The reader's caught in webs of your emotion, Without a notion of how the thing was done. I hope this gives the feel and casts a clue. So great poetic art may yet improve. Carl Estrin
