CoLAB An Extended Ecological Collaboration & Practice

PRACTICE PROFILE

CoLAB

CoLAB is an extended ecological collaboration and practice. CoLAB has strong foundation in the theory of extended ecology; the idea that we’re all linked within the landscape, free from territories and ownership boundaries. CoLAB believes that projects and events do not simply stay bound by extent of works and site, and do not simply include just a select few stakeholders that are deemed important to the project. Instead, these projects and events extend, flow and traverse over these figurative boundaries to include a plethora of extended stakeholders that will be effected and should thus have a say in the project. CoLAB bridges this divide to include those stakeholders who would otherwise never have a say in the production and outcome of their landscape. CoLAB offers a service by providing the Lab, tools and consultancy to spark a collaborative, conversation-driven working environment between proposed project stakeholders and extended stakeholders to create a beneficial and agreed-upon outcome.

...

BUT WHAT IS CoLAB?...

The LAB offers a testing realm to which outcomes and relationships can be simulated, argued, discussed and concluded, to then be recorded and implemented in the real world. The lab simulation offers a responsive way to which the effects of projects and events can be simulated and then acted upon. CoLAB prides itself in creating new responsive and collaborative ways of working together in the landscape, acknowledging the relationships and outputs of the events and projects and restoring a voice to those stakeholders that are part of the extended ecology of the landscape. CEO, Reuben Hore-Waterhouse

OUR BELIEFS

COLLABORATORS ARE DETERMINED BY THE EXTENDED ECOLOGY - THOSE PEOPLE EFFECTED BY A PROJECT OR EVENT. HERE ARE SOME OF OUR MOST COMMON COLLABORATORS

BUT SIR, HOW DOES SOMEONE USE THE LAB?

HAHA, WELL LUCY IT’S REALLY QUITE SIMPLE ! HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED...

MEASURING CUP

SAND

TEST FORMS

PAPER

SLOWLY POOR THE SAND INTO THE PROPOSED DREDGING AREA.

FILL THE MEASURING CUP WITH THE SCALED SAND AMOUNT THAT REPRESENTS THE QUANTITY OF MATERIAL THAT IS TO BE DREDGED: 1000m³ @ 1 : 500 = ~200ml

1

NOW, WITH YOUR FRIENDS USE THE FORMS TO CURATE WHERE THE SAND IS DEPOSITED AND FORMED

2 RECORD EACH MOVEMENT, ROTATION AND PLACEMENT INTO A SCRIPT

BUT SIR, WHAT IS A SCRIPT AND HOW DO YOU WRITE A SCRIPT?

WELL LUCY ...

A SCRIPT IS A WAY OF RECORDING EVENTS IN SPACE AND TIME. IT ENABLES US TO:

MANAGE EVENTS OVER MULTIPLE SCALES AND TIME PERIODS ALONG ONE VISUAL LINEAGE.

ALL RESULTS WERE RECORDED SINGULARLY. RESULTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. (WATER CURRENT, WIND, RAIN, MORE THAN ONE FORM). CONSULT YOUR CoLAB AGENT.

NOW REMEMBER WHAT YOU DO MAY HAVE AND EXTENDED EFFECT ELSEWHERE IN THE ECOLOGY DESPITE DISTANCES AND SCALES. SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET THE OTHER STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED! Rotation

WOAHH ... BUT WHAT ARE THESE FORMS?

THE FORMS ARE RESPONSIVE; MEANING THEY CAN BE TRANSFORMED FOR EACH DREDGE CYCLE.WHETHER FOR ECONOMICAL OR ECOLOGICAL BENEFITS.

WELL JERRY, THERE ARE A FEW OPTIONS. FORMS ARE SUPPLIED FLAT PACKED FOR EASY INSTALLATION AND CAN BE DISASSEMBLED FOR EASE OF MOVEMENT!
