Swing Characteristic – Hanging Back
Incorrect
Hanging Back refers to a lack of weight shift towards the target on the downswing. Usually the player is still on their back foot at impact. In a normal weight shift, the player is about four inches closer to the target at impact compared to address. Many times the player will hit heavy divots that begin behind the ball or they may have compensated with a ball position that is too far back in their stance. Hanging Back is a major cause of loss of speed since weight shift is one of the most important skills to help produce club head speed. CORRECTIVE EXCERCISES & SWING DRILLS
Side Wall Press (LEFT) This exercise helps develop a full weight shift and forces you to lead with your lower body on the down swing. Keeping your inside leg at a 90-degree angle and pushing against the wall with your lead side thigh will create more mobility in the golf swing. Lead Leg Only Golf Swings (RIGHT) This drill will help stabilize your lead leg and give you the feeling of posting up on your lead leg. Standing on your lead leg only, with the trail foot angled at 90-degrees hit soft pitch shots. This creates the sensation of having the correct body weight transfer at impact and follow through.

SWEETHEART TOURNAMENT This year’s sweetheart event was the most attended one yet. We had over 74 players competing. The overall gross winners were Darryl & Brenda Rendleman with a score of 72. Our overall net winners were Steve and Gayle Schuessler with a score of 63. We also had winners for front and back nine winners. Our front nine gross winners was the team of Pete & Charlotte Maier with a score of 34 and coming in second place was the team of Robin & Connie Dodson with a score of 35. Our front nine net winners was the team of Gary & Paula Mann with a score of 31, and our second place net winners was the team of Peter & Anne Swartberg with a score of 33. Our back nine gross winners was the team of Don Rafferty & Mary Lynn Sertich with a score of 37, and coming in second was the team of Ken & Roberta Sentel with a score of 38. Our back nine net winners was the team of Larry & Jessica Morgenthal with a score of 30, and coming in second was the team of Derek & Anne Whelan with a score of 30. THE RINGER TOURNAMENT This was our first time doing a Ringer Tournament and we had a great turnout, with over 50 members competing! It was a two day event, where you could only improve your score on the second day from the day before. Our men’s overall gross winner was Chris Clausen with a score of 67 and the men’s net champion was Michel Yip with a score of 58! It was a close battle for first place in the ladies division, but winning in the match of cards was Mary Lynn Sertich with a score of 71 to win the tournament over Brenda Rendleman. Our ladies net champion was Ava Franks with a score of 55. Thank you to all who participated and we hope you enjoyed the tournament.

From the Courts... For the month of March, it is going to be "March Madness" for Reunion Tennis and Pickleball! There are a lot of new dynamic events that have been happening down at the Tennis & Pickleball Centre. One of these has been the first ever Pickleball Ladies and Men's League. Every Thursday the ladies have been competing and improving their games on the courts from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, while the men have been doing the same on Fridays from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. We invite all members to come out and cheer on your friends! I hope to see you all on the courts! If you have not come out, swing by and see what all the buzz is about.
