WE ARE CREATING TOMORROW’S PEFORMERS, EDUCATORS AND ENTREPRENEURS.
BRITTANY Brittany—Millersville University offers such a wide range of organizations, activities and opportunities. I have participated in Marauder Music Productions (MU’s music production company), OperaLancaster in partnership with MU’s voice studio, given a lecture recital, studied abroad in London, UK…the list goes on! Every year, more and more doors open for you, if you’re ready to go through them.
BRAD Brad—Millersville University’s Music Department offers invaluable experience to develop oneself as a professional within an industry demanding constant adaptation. My internship at the Ware Center provided me with valuable hands-on experience interacting with various artists, and also broadening my understanding of how a non-profit organization handles business operations. This excellent opportunity led to an internship in New York City at Warner Music Group, a major record company.
ISRAEL
Israel—During my time at Millersville University, I have had numerous opportunities like traveling out of state for conferences, teaching private lessons, playing in local pit orchestras and gaining first-hand teaching experience at a local elementary school through a scholarship that I received from “Music for Everyone.” Opportunities are valuable only if you take full advantage of seeking them out and creating new ones. I have learned how to tailor my college education to fit my needs.

LOUIS VYNER PERFORMANCE AWARD The Louis Vyner Award in Performance honors the late founder and conductor of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, a pillar in the greater Lancaster musical community. It recognizes excellence in performance (including conducting) as judged by the full-time and adjunct faculty, but places this excellence within the context of a broader excellence of a University-oriented view of music as an academic discipline. All applicants must have a 3.0 Q.P.A. in music courses and must have reached junior status in the University as a degree candidate in music by the date of the audition.
KAYLA KLASE
The award consists of two parts: a cash award, being the annual income from the fund established in 1980 for this purpose from the proceeds of a previous Pittsburgh Symphony residency at Millersville University and a public performance during the senior year with recognition at that time as the Louis Vyner Performance Award winner.
2013 Louis Vyner Performance Award Winner I really enjoy performing musical theater and Millersville has provided me with multiple opportunities to do so. During my years of study, I played the lead role in “The Pirates of Penzance,” “The Old Maid and the Thief” and “Meanwhile, Back at Cinderella’s,” which were collaborations between the Millersville University’s Music Department and Opera Lancaster. As an active performer with Opera Lancaster, I have had the opportunity to appear in “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and “Cosi fan tutte” as well as “My Fair Lady” at the Fulton Opera House and in a master class with Broadway performer, Alisa Endsley.
