EDUCATION GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS Millersville University is pleased to offer graduate programs intended to add both depth and breadth to an educator’s level of expertise and help you gain a professional edge that will make a profound difference.
MASTER OF EDUCATION (M.ED.) ART EDUCATION Ideal for both in-practice and aspiring art educators, students in the M. Ed. in Art Education program take coursework in art education, general education, art history, studios and elective credits. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION The M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education prepares professionals for teaching and administrative positions in childcare and preschool settings, elementary schools, and early-intervention and special education programs. ENGLISH Through refined research, analytical and writing skills development, the M.Ed. in English enables students to advance in their teaching careers, or into doctoral programs or other professional endeavors.
ONLINE TEACHING The Online Teaching—M.Ed. in Assessment, Curriculum and Teaching (ACTE) program allows teachers to expand their knowledge base and examine emerging educational fields in depth. SCHOOL COUNSELING Through a multidisciplinary approach to school counseling, students advance their skills through careful examination of knowledge bases and research in the fields of education, psychology and counseling. SPECIAL EDUCATION The M.Ed. in Special Education prepares educators to facilitate an empowered and unified K-12 learning community to be successful through respect, collaboration, mutuality and the realization of each individual gift.
GIFTED EDUCATION The M.Ed. in Gifted Education is a multidisciplinary program designed to provide the specialized knowledge needed by teachers and other educational personnel who work with gifted and able students (K-12).
SPORT MANAGEMENT Offering a comprehensive and convenient format, this program is designed for students who wish to work in the business of sport management and includes courses in management, law, marketing, education and research, with a choice of two concentrations: Athletic Management and Athletic Coaching.
LANGUAGE AND LITERACY EDUCATION The M.Ed. in Language and Literacy Education allows students to choose one of two concentrations: a literacy concentration leading to a reading specialist certification, or an ESL concentration leading to ESL certification.
STEM EDUCATION The Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)—M.Ed. in Assessment, Curriculum and Teaching (ACTE) program offers active, project-based learning and expands the student’s knowledge base in this growing cross-disciplinary content area.
LEADERSHIP FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING Designed to prepare teachers for leadership roles such as principal, department head, curriculum director and supervisor, this course of study offers a master’s degree in education, a K-12 Principal certificate and a K-12 Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction certificate.
TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION The M.Ed. in Technology & Innovation offers a customizable program of study that provides new ways of thinking about the world through concepts such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, design thinking and innovation.
MATHEMATICS The M.Ed. in Mathematics offers a variety of mathematics education courses that allow graduate students to investigate the nature, teaching and learning of mathematics and apply learned skills in their own classrooms. Fully online format * Joint program with Shippensburg University.

Designed with flexibility for working professionals, the MSW program prepares graduates to work in a variety of human service programs and agencies in an advanced clinical and/or administrative capacity.

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK & MASTER OF SCIENCE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (DUAL PROGRAM) Developed in response to emerging trends in social work as a result of the impact of traumatic events such as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, this program offers research-informed practice interventions in relation to emergency management and response, specifically in the fields of mental health and trauma.
With coursework completed primarily online and a weekend residency face-to-face learning component once a semester, the DSW program is designed with the working professional in mind. NURSING GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Two master’s degrees in nursing and a range of certification/certificate programs are offered for nurses pursuing an advanced practice role.
NURSING (MSN) FAMILY/INDIVIDUAL ACROSS LIFE SPAN NURSE PRACTITIONER This program is designed for the part-time student, and upon completion, graduates are eligible for certification by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. They are also eligible to sit for national certification examinations as offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. NURSING EDUCATION The Nursing Education Program is designed for students pursuing a career as a nurse educator. Graduates are prepared to teach in nursing education programs or healthcare agencies.
DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE (DNP) The DNP program is designed to develop the next generation of nursing practice leaders who will have a positive impact on healthcare in the central Pennsylvania region. The program is offered in a blended, part-time format to meet the needs of the professional student population.

LANGUAGES AND CULTURES The Department of Foreign Languages at Millersville University offers a Master of Arts in Languages and Cultures, with concentrations in French, German and Spanish. Course materials are presented in culturally authentic situations, using state-of-the-art technologies.
Graduate programs in French, German and Spanish are totalimmersion summer schools, which allow students to practice their language both in and out of the classroom and are ideal for: • Teachers working toward a master’s degree or certification. • Persons planning to travel abroad. • Those desiring “refresher courses” for credit or by audit.

Through the support of faculty, advanced historic research methodology and field internship opportunities, graduates of the Master of Arts in History program at Millersville University stand out as competent and engaging historians.
MASTER OF ARTS (MA) HISTORY Led by faculty dedicated to teaching, historical research and scholarship, this program offers a wide range of courses in the traditional fields of U.S. and European history. The department also offers courses dealing with Africa, Latin America, the Atlantic, the Middle East, violence, women and the Holocaust. Included in the degree program is an advanced historic research methodology course and local and global internship opportunities that provide students with the skills, knowledge and experience to enter into a Ph.D. program or a number of fields, including academics, curation and historic writing.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS Millersville offers graduate assistantships to students who have been admitted into a master’s degree or doctoral program. Graduate assistants (GAs) are assigned to an academic department or administrative office, usually relating to their area of study. First-year GAs working full-time (20 hours per week) earn a tuition waiver of 24 credits per year and a stipend of $5,000. A limited number of part-time (10 hours per week) graduate assistantships are also available, which compensate for half of the tuition waiver and stipend.
