Estados Unidos debe cerrar Guantánamo: Amnistía Internacional - El Tiempo A pesar que el presidente Barack Obama emitió una orden ejecutiva hace cinco años para cerrar la cárcel de Guantánamo, esta aun sigue funcionando y las personas que se encuentran recluidas dentro de este establecimiento no han sido acusadas formalmente de cometer algún delito, ni han sido llevados a juicio. Sin embargo, a algunos de los detenidos ya se les ha autorizado la repatriación pero se han demorado los trámites debido a cuestiones de seguridad. Todas las medidas anunciadas en el discurso sobe el Estado de la Unión - El País. El presidente Barack Obama durante el discurso del Estado de la Unión el día martes 28 de enero, anunció una serie de medidas que ayudarían a mejorar la seguridad en algunos ámbitos que están presentando falencias. La primera medida que se tiene prevista implementar, es la retirada de la mitad de las tropas estadounidenses en Afganistán, las cuales regresarían a finales de este año. US Deep South snow storm maroons motorists (La tormenta de nieve en el Sur de Estados Unidos aisla a los conductores) - BBC Debido a la gran tormenta de la noche del martes 28 de enero, muchos estadounidenses tuvieron que refugiarse en colegios, supermercados y en iglesias, por lo que cinco estados se tuvieron que declarar en estado de emergencia y se dispusieron vehículos militares para ayudar a las personas atrapadas dentro de los carros o llevar alimentos a las personas necesitadas. El gobierno indonesio solicitó respeto por su soberanía y la detención de estas actividades por parte de la armada australiana hasta aclarecer los hechos.

El régimen sirio y la oposición inician el diálogo con duras acusaciones - El País Los diálogos han iniciado en Ginebra, con la gran ausencia de Irán, al cual la ONU le retiro la invitación debido a presiones americanas dado que Irán no aceptó lo convenido en Ginebra I. El enriquecimiento acelerado de las élites ha erosionado la credibilidad de los mandatarios comunistas, cuyas promesas de acabar con la desigualdad y la corrupción se enfrentan ahora a un nuevo escándalo: el uso masivo de paraísos fiscales por parte de sus familiares directos. La ONU alerta del riesgo de genocidio en la República Centroafricana - El País Un funcionario de la ONU declara el riesgo de genocidio si no se solucionan los conflictos entre la población musulmana y cristiana de la República Centroafricana. South Sudan rivals sign ceasefire agreement
