, A NEW DEVELOPMENT PROCESS Following the successful development of the world’s most aerodynamically advanced road and TT bikes, Scott Aerodynamic Science lab turned its focus to developing an all new Aero helmet. Leveraging proven aerodynamical knowhow, and a passion for winning products, Scott is proud to bring the new Scott Split to time trial racers and triathletes alike. The Scott Split will hit stores MY 2013 and will be officially introduced to the public at Eurobike in September.

Scott engineers worked with Team GreenEDGE to determine a clear set of objectives when designing the new Split Aero helmet. The Team asked for a helmet with the lowest drag coefficient possible, an advanced optical solution, a fully integrated visor, a dynamic ventilation system, and of course an adjustable, comfortable fit.

AERODYNAMIC SHAPE Scott engineers began with the theoretically optimal aerodynamic shape and scaled it, to cover the envelop of the riders head. The shell has been tested in the wind tunnel during the Aero bike validation to find the perfect shape and curve to gain the important split-second advantage
CFD imagery Computational Fluid Dynamics were used to further develop the shape. The Split’s profile was also optimized for optimal performance in various real world scenarios, for example cross winds.

AERODYNAMIC SHAPE PROTOTYPE A number of prototyping methods were used in the evolution of the SPLIT design. This enabled Scott Engineers to test performance at each stage of the development process.
WIND TUNNEL Extensive wind tunnel testing was carried out with team GreenEDGE with using the Australian Institute of Sports facilities to refine the helmet’s shape with regard to both aerodynamics and rider integration. In this way, tests yielded more holistic, real world solutions. During the process a seamlessly integrated ‘clip in’ optical shield, which further improves the aerodynamics of the overall design, was also developed.

VENTILATION From the beginning the Split was designed with ventilation in mind. Particular focus was placed on preserving the outer aerodynamical shape, while providing ample ventilation and cooling. A deeply channeled internal structure was developed to pull air through the helmet to the large rear exhaust port, effectively drawing heat away from the rider’s head. Leveraging Scott’s extensive goggle and lens technologies, a series of intake vents (Air Control System) were strategically positioned along the top of the visor and are aligned with the internal venting channels for optimal cooling.
FIT SYSTEM Finally, our proven Micro Rotary Adjustment System was incorporated to provide a comfortable, customizable fit. The rotary mechanism provides one-handed adjustability, allowing a custom fit to be easily dialed in, ensuring that the helmet remains properly
