With 24 attractive companies, more than 2000 attending students, speed interviews, a presentation by former NASA engineer Gabe Gabrielle, over 500 prizes and giveaways and free ice-cream, the RevolveDay 2019 was a great success. The RevolveDay is the career day where we connect our sponsors with some of the brightest and best students in Trondheim. The day started off with gift bags being given to the 100 first people arriving at the venue. Inside were prizes ranging from high performing power banks to candy. A few hours later, several hundred students entered the venue to get a chance to win some of the 400 gift bags that were given away during the balloon drop. The task here is to jump and grab the balloons as soon as they are released from the floor above because inside there is a number indicating which prize you have won. Following the balloon drop, there were company presentations followed by speed interviews. The companies had 5 minutes to convince students that they were the best employer, in which the students during the speed interviews had to do the reverse. Hopefully, we facilitated the career start for several students. At 1 pm, we had the privilege to have former NASA engineer Gabe Gabrielle hold a presentation for us. Hundreds of people showed up to listen to his inspiring

story. “You only need three things in life. To believe in yourself, try your best, and enjoy everything you do. He also showed amazing videos related to the space program, leaving the audience both excited and inspired. Four of our previous cars were showcased after proper polishing. One of them, Gnist from 2016, was also used as a driving simulator using a VR headset. The students had the possibility to sit inside the vehicle and experience how it is to drive the formula student racing tracks. To finish off the day, we had an information meeting promoting the different positions for the board admission to find the people who will bring the project onwards towards the future. All while enjoying lots of pizza. All in all the RevolveDay 2019 was wonderful and we want to thank all the sponsors and students attending.

The Mono Is Back Text: Christian Trandem Photo: Martin Berger

After 15 days of monocoque production in Kongsberg, team 2019s monocoque arrived back in Trondheim. The team was eager to meet up when the monocoque group arrived late in the evening at the workshop. It was easy to see that the people in the team was excited to get to see the first major part of the car in its physical form. Let us go a couple of weeks back in time. To the point when we left Trondheim to start the production of the chassis of the car. After five months of designing, the group was eager to start producing, what until then, only existed in CAD models on our computers. Our main sponsor the Kongsberg Group is lending us their large production facilities for composite production. This is what gives us the chance to create such a large piece of carbon fibre and it is a great advantage when it comes to production. The days in Kongsberg were similar in routine but unique in tasks. Every day we met up at the facility at 07:00 when the morning shift started to be let in, and we worked until 23:00 when the evening shift finished their day.

This gave us 16 hours of effective production every day. In Kongsberg no day was equal, we did everything by ourself, and composite production is labour intensive work in which everything is done by hand. The things we have to do ranges from laying fibre, cutting and placing core material to glueing in inserts. For each step in the production, we had to vakuumbag the monocoque to have it in the autoclave, which is a high-pressure oven, used for curing of composite parts. Even though this takes a lot of time the thing we did the most is by far grinding and washing. This is because cleanliness is key when it comes to making strong and wellperforming composites. So now after a couple of weeks in Kongsberg, the group who got back to Trondheim was pretty exhausted, but with a lot of new knowledge and experiences. After a couple of deserved quiet days, we are ready for new tasks. The project is starting to take form and from now the deadline for a test ready car is closing in.
