in home and garden decor from renovation gurus such as: Janet Ewen, interior designer and frequent television guest, who will discuss quick and easy design elements and Bryan Baeumler from HGTV’s Leave It To Bryan to W Network’s Love It Or List It Vancouver presenter Todd Talbot, who will speak about piloting Vancouver’s uber-expensive real estate market. In addition, there will be hundreds of the industry’s finest Canadian renovation, decoration and landscaping specialists to answer your questions.

What? Gold … Really? For many baby boomers, the very idea that gold is back in kitchen and bathroom fixtures, hardware and even on your couch is enough to make them groan! Well, not to worry, says guest speaker at the show, interior

designer Karin Bohne. “It’s not that shiny, brassylooking gold that many people remember from the seventies and eighties,” adds Bohne, founder and principal of Moeski Design. “It’s a matte gold with a sleek contemporary finish.”

Wallpaper and Cushions Fellow interior designer Christine Friend agrees that these finishing touches are crucial. “I’ve noticed wallpaper is coming back in a huge way,” says Friend, owner of Friendly Decorator, who will offer up her best inexpensive tips and tricks during the show. “If you can’t afford pricey art work, find a gorgeous wallpaper pattern or a poster and frame it.” Her other economical ideas include purchasing a 22-inch filler for a 20-inch pillow cover to create a plush cushion or adding a

Structural Elements During the show, Bohne will be on the main stage helping homeowners get that million-dollar look they yearn for – but for a lot less. One of the easiest ways to do that is by adding wider, longer, more detailed moldings and baseboards throughout your home. “Whether you are renovating or selling there are key elements that will help elevate the look of your home and they don’t cost thousands,” she adds.

Ask the Expert: What Items Are Adjusted on Closing Purchase?

Karin and Christine’s Top Trend Tips • Lighting size – bigger is better: Let your light fixture be the statement piece. • Wood flooring is going lighter: Honey oak, natural tones right up to medium hues in a matte finish. However, the wide plank is still very much in vogue! • There’s a global approach to design: Think beautifully inspired Indian textures and fabrics, a gorgeous, colourful Moroccan area rug or a Chinese sculpture • Modern to mid-century elements: Modern elements will intertwine their way into 2015 décor in a big way. • Tufted upholstered high headboards with deep buttons or reclaimed wood headboards are all the rage in 2015.
