T

he folks at Adera Development Group are shouting from their sustainably designed rooftops about their host of recent award wins – and who can blame them? Adera has scooped up bags of accolades in recent years, and so far 2017 has been no different. Most recently, the local developer walked off with three prizes, including the top honour in the country, at the Canadian Home Builder’s Association (CHBA) National Awards for Housing Excellence. Adera received the coveted Design Excellence Award, as well as two individual New Home Awards for North Vancouver’s The Shore, in the categories of Attached–Mid-ToHigh-Rise Condominium or Apartment Project and the Apartment Style/Condominium Units under 1,000 square feet. The Design Excellence Award recognizes the outstanding performance by a single builder or developer in the new home categories in all of Canada, and it is the third time Adera has taken home this most prestigious prize. The team could not be more excited about

its hat-trick of triumph. “We are thrilled and humbled to be recognized in this year’s National Awards for Housing Excellence,” says Eric Andreasen, vice-president of marketing and sales at Adera. “We are passionate about our projects and providing homeowners with the best quality homes. These awards are a reflection of this and our teams’ hard work.” Local Innovation The company’s big night at the CHBA Awards follows a great showing at a gala ceremony closer to home, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) 2017 Ovation Awards. Adera won several of the night’s 48 categories for its Vancouver projects Prodigy and Sail. For Adera, it’s all about sustainability and build quality. Adera introduced its trademark Quiet Home™ construction technology in 2013, which has been certified as equal to or better than concrete built to code and significantly reduces sound transmission between private residences. Adera’s condos at the award-winning The Shore. “When touring the display homes, people can’t hear the construction just a few floors above,” says Andreasen. “Sound transference between floor and party walls – both airborne and impact – are significantly decreased so home owners can enjoy the comfort of their new home in peace and quiet.” In another first, Adera is now using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) at its UBC project, Virtuoso. CLT is a mass timber product created from engineered wood panels with

wood from sustainably harvested forests. Each CLT panel is typically three to seven boards thick, laminated at high pressure to create a strong luxury building material. “Imagine a slab of wood replacing a slab of concrete for the floor. Mass timber performs as well as, if not better, than concrete in most circumstances. It is lighter, easier to work with and more sustainable. We feel it’s the way of the future,” Andreasen says. He adds, “Sustainability is baked into our DNA. It’s important from a triple bottom line: lower monthly costs for our customers, personal satisfaction for us and it’s the socially responsible thing to do for the planet.
