Highlights of new custom homes featured on the Parade include a Built-Green Platinum, Smart Home- and Energy Star-certifi ed North Vancouver home with separate coach house, and an R2000 green-compliant home in Vancouver with a suite and in-ground parking, featuring spectacular views from its rooftop lounge.

Whole-home renovations on the Parade showcase the transformation of a variety of home types, including the reworking of a 1970s Vancouver Special, the updating of a 1940s Burnaby home into a forward-thinking house, and the perfect modernization of a craftsman-style home in Surrey. The GVHBA said that the homes off er not just inspiration but also practical advice to would-be renovators and selfbuilders. According to Bob de Wit, CEO of the GVHBA, where decisions really count, in both savings to the homeowner and longevity to the home, are those made about the building materials, mechanicals and how these relate to the overall design

Mass timber performs as well as, if not better, than concrete in most circumstances. It is lighter, easier to work with and more sustainable. We feel it’s the way of the future,” Andreasen says. It’s important from a triple bottom line: lower monthly costs for our customers, personal satisfaction for us and it’s the socially responsible thing to do for the planet.
