EOPLE DON’T JUST BUY A home; they buy a lifestyle. Dexter Associates Realty agents Ruthie Shugarman and Paige Kraft understand that well. The two develop a special narrative for each home listing they take on. “We don’t rush into a new listing, we plan as much as possible by creating a story around the listing,” explains Shugarman. Using actors and drones, Shugarman and Kraft create four-minute videos that capture the home’s signature features, as well as highlight what makes each neighbourhood unique, including its main attractions. The idea of creating a story around each listing came from Shugarman’s 13-year career as a successful owner of an event management company. “I was always interested in home design. Selling real estate actually combines my two loves; curating an event and the beauty of selling homes,” she adds. Working for a digital marketing company, Kraft’s interest in real estate grew out of her love of the building process. “My husband and I built our home and I loved all elements of the build,” she says. “I met Ruthie while working on a fundraiser. We worked so well together that Ruthie suggested I join her in the business.” Tired of the constant travel her job entailed, Kraft knew they would be a great team. Creative careers Creativity defines this duo. In 2008, Shugarman was thinking of innovative ways to launch her career. Doing what she knew best, Shugarman hosted an event, a clothing swap in her home. Her plan was twofold: put on a
