Seven o’clock in the morning, two days before Thanksgiving is not typically when people start preparing for their Thanksving meal. But it sure was a great time to be at WalMart shopping for the disadvantaged families of Las Cruces. Just as the holidays are getting underway, people are already getting into the spirit of giving. The Las Cruces Homebuilders Association is definitely in the spirit this year, as they made sure that 200 disadvantaged families received the ingredients for their Thanksgiving dinner. Two hundred families from the Families & Youth Center and MacArthur Elementary School received a box containing all the essential grocery items for a Thanksgiving dinner including cranberries, yams, potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie and a large turkey to complete the meal. All this was courtesy of the Las Cruces Home Builders Association (LCHBA) and their Community Service Committee. Scott Krahling, the Committee’s Chairman was extremely proud of what the organization was able to accomplish,

“This event demonstrates the Homebuilders’ commitment to not only make beautiful homes but to also come together as a community and help those that need it the most.” In 2007, the Community Service Committee donated a combined total of 120 Thanksgiving dinner boxes. Every year the committee has raised funds for this endeavor through raffles at the LCHBA monthly membership luncheons. They also rely on donations from their general membership and community businesses. “I know we are not the only organization that donates at this time of year. It just goes to show how many people are out there that need our help and makes us realize how fortunate we are. I’m glad to be a part of this,” says Joe Baca of Precision Mortgage Group who donated to and volunteered at the Thanksgiving Food Drive Event.
