Sally, Annika, Natasja og Juliane Studieretningsdag Photo assignment The theme for our assignment was stereotypes and whether they could be confirmed or rejected in our photo. Our initial idea was to find a tattoo artist in Copenhagen to interview and take photos of in order to get a better idea of their work and how the public view of tattoos have changed over time. Our group attempted to accomplish our idea, but we had no luck finding a tattoo artist who had time for photos or an interview. We then decided to wander the roads of Copenhagen: both the trendy streets of StudiestrĂŚde and dodgy Istedgade to find points of interests. Eventually we found our photo at Vor Frue Kirke, where a lone violinist sat at a bench: bicycles parked around him was the only other sign of life nearby. The surrounding area of Vor Frue Kirke also stands as a beautiful plaza in the center of Copenhagen: the lone violinist adds a melancholic touch to the area despite that the violin often connotes to high-culture attractions such as operas and classic music, which would fit nicely with the old and charming buildings in the square. We eventually chose this picture, as the distance between the viewer and subject is slightly further away than usual. We also wanted to enhance the feeling of lonesomeness by cropping out a large portion of the upper part of the photo, thus creating a wider horizontal format and making the background appear larger and less busy, so that the focus would still rely on the subject yet maintain an atmosphere of loneliness and melancholy. Colors have been saturated and made color in order to underline this setting. We felt that this picture might break a stereotype about street performers: we felt the man did not ruin the otherwise clean and classic nature of the plaza, but his instrument greatly contributed to the homely, yet grand look of Vor Frue Kirke.
