burnout and anxiety that were able to stand the tests that prevailed. The pandemic taught leaders how to embrace effective self-care models and initiate avenues for connection.
Thoughtful Communication The pandemic presented a situation where everyone was concerned about their team members and mates. Leaders had to embrace thoughtful communication with utmost accuracy and honesty while ensuring that everyone is on board. In essence, any form of careless communication was associated with operational ineffectiveness and inefficiency. Leaders had to communicate in such a way that they minimized the senses of anxiety and stress among their followers.
Fostering the Sense of Belonging Apart from embedding well-being, the pandemic made leaders appreciate the essence of developing a sense of belonging among their followers. Leaders had to ensure that each follower feels respected, included, fairly treated, and connected to the bigger goals of the group. Most institutions adopted remote work to prevent the spread of COVID-19 which created feelings of loneliness and isolation. Leaders had to eliminate such adversities by enhancing connection and belonging among their teams.
Transparency Is Critical The pandemic forced people working in managerial and other leadership positions to embrace transparency as a basic metric when connecting with their teams. In essence, it is only through embracing a transparent leadership environment that the leader will have the ability to have a holistic comprehension of individual follower’s challenges and experiences then look into ways of improving success. Transparency gives the leader the opportunity to understand the team from the larger lens and provide a greater scope of the perspectives, challenges, aspects, abilities, and emotions of the followers and the impacts of any decision made.
