Edwin Salmon Structural steel is the foundation from which I build my art. My sculptures fluctuate between semi-realistic representational figures, unconventional fabrication of common objects, and abstract geometric architectural forms. I cut, bend, fasten, cast, and roll formed stock shapes to create dynamic movement. Layering of materials such as cement, glass, and wood depicts the building processes in modern construction. The use of postindustrial waste and remnants in my art establishes a commentary on consumption. Through the use of texture and color the finishes evoke a variety of moods. My intent is to breathe life into the building materials and create sculptures that emit an energy and presence that is distinctly their own.
