A mother loves right from the start, she holds her baby close to her heart. The bond that grows will never falter, her love is so strong it will never alter. A mother gives never ending love, she never feels that she has given enough. For you she will always do her best, constantly working, there’s no time to rest. A mother is there when things go wrong, a hug and a kiss to help us along. Always there when we need her near, gently wipes our eyes when we shed a tear. A mother’s prayer means so very much, Believing in God and his gentle touch. Keeping you safe both day and night, your mother’s prayer will time it just right. So on this day shower your mother with love, Gifts and presents are nice but that is not enough. Give your mother a day to have some peace of mind, be gentle, be good, be helpful, be kind.

Progressive Agriculture Foundation 2016 Safety Day By Shirley Holden Progressive Agriculture Safety Days® are as fun as they are educational. These one-day events teach children lessons that help keep them and those around them safe and healthy.

Many in agriculture know someone whose life has been affected by a farm-related injury or death. The statistics are sobering. Even more tragic is that these incidents could have been prevented with a few simple safety precautions. That's why the Progressive Agriculture Foundation® is on a crusade to bring safety and health information to the farming communities who desperately need it. We traditionally think of rural areas where farms tend to be. But with an increasing demand for Urban Agriculture, safety and

health is just as crucial. Knowing basic CPR, or what to do in the event of a fire, or even how to prevent drownings are all equally important in our communities. How to handle small tools, or how to remain safe if faced with a downed power line are lifesaving teaching opportunities. At the heart of this effort is the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program. This educational program provides training and resources for local communities to conduct one-day safety and health programs. Safety Days are designed to be ageappropriate, hands-on, fun, and safe for children and their communities. The mission of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is simple – to provide education, training and resources to make urban, farm, and ranch life safer and healthier for children and their communities. At a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day, participants are divided into small groups of 10 to 15 that rotate between stations where lessons

outlined in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day Topics and Activities Manual are taught. To facilitate learning, educational, age-appropriate and fun hands-on activities and demonstrations are part of each lesson. A Few Quick Stats on Outcomes of Safety Day Events: Safety day participants decreased their risky behavior following participation in a safety day to a greater extent than children who did not participate in a safety day. Children of all ages benefited with significant increases in knowledge and decreases in risky behaviors for participants of all ages, from 8 to 13. Genesis Project214 is this year’s facilitator of West Pullman First Annual Progressive Agriculture 2016 Safety Day. This is a two-day event whereas the first day is focused on school aged children and the second day is focused on family and community. Metcalf Community Academy and West Pullman Park are hosts to this exciting event. On Friday June 3rd, 2016, we will bring Safety Day activities on-site to the children attending Metcalf Community Academy. On Saturday June 4th, 2016, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Safety Day will take place at West Pullman Park. The City of Chicago hosted its first Clean and Green for 2016. Several times a year the City makes available tools and supplies to community organizations and individuals wanting to clean streets, alleyways, and public walkways. In West Pullman, three such organizations rolled up sleeves and tackled several blocks and alleyways. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity Chicago, Chicago Fire Soccer Team, Valspar Paints, Genesis Project214, and Greater Good of West Pullman, our community became a little more beautiful and clean.

The Importance of Self-Determination by Staff Writer Self-Determination: 1. the power or ability to make a decision for oneself without influence from outside. 2. free More and more men are looking for personal care products that do more than just the basics. They want premium benefits in fewer steps, and they want brands and products that help them define their style. Introducing Alloy Sport.

will, discretion - the power of making free choices unconstrained by external agencies. People are centrally concerned with motivation — how to move themselves or others to act. Everywhere, parents, teachers, coaches, and managers struggle with how to motivate those that they mentor, and individuals struggle to find energy, mobilize effort and persist at the tasks of life and work. People are often moved by external factors such as reward systems, grades, evaluations, or the opinions they fear others might have of them. Yet, just as frequently, people are motivated from within, by interests, curiosity, care or abiding values.

Self-determination states that, “I will stand on my own, not dependent on external services that often define my economic, political, educational, and quality of living status.” It states that, “When given opportunity to move up in life, I will take that step”. For to be dependent on external services is to give up your right to self-govern, to self-determine because the hand that feeds you and houses you is the hand you will become mentally aligned. Self-determination allows one to, with careful consideration, plot a course for life, a blue-print so to speak. The mindset of a self-determined person cannot and will not accept anything that will strip dignity, autonomy, competence, and relatedness from

their being. The person who is selfdetermined realizes and understands that social dependency can either support or prevent accomplishment in one’s life. It can set the stage for chronic and continued ‘lack’, setting one up for abject failure. Selfdetermination is, the catalyst that moves individuals, families, communities, from chronic lack to healthy and thriving. It is the power to make decisions, free choices, build strong and thriving communities, and most importantly, legacy.
