Rose-tinted spectacles may be a factor but for most of us summer terms at school are evocative of so many powerful memories for all the senses. The sound of cricket ball and willow, summer dress regulations coming into effect, cake and sandwich overload during the King’s Coronation celebrations, the energy of Sports Day, even the anxiety felt before that first exam, and certainly the euphoria felt as a successful set of exams drew to a close, all served as a reminder of how the Trinity Term traditionally cements so many memories which stay with students for the rest of their lives. And so it is only fitting that this term’s edition of The Register unashamedly celebrates the joy of tradition and routine, community and friendship, laughter and fun.

Bradstone Brook looking resplendent in the sunshine as our wonderful Grounds Staff ensured the pitches were as immaculate as ever.

The last year-group photograph for the Upper Sixth Form takes place on the front lawn: sealed in the archives of the RGS for years to come.

Beginning-of-term haircuts, freshly-pressed suits, clean shoes, & ready smiles: the Class of 2023 prepares to strike a pose.

The theme of the 200 Seconds Competition was inspired by David Attenborough’s quote:

“Nature is our biggest ally & greatest inspiration.” The finalists’ presentations were extremely well informed & passionately articulated.

The smiles just say it all!

The Concerto Concert was one of the very best in recent memory. Under the guidance of Director of Music, Sam Orchard, our musicians displayed incredible musicianship with Southern Pro Musica.

RGS rock bands raised the roof at local Guildford venue, The Boileroom, in front of a packed, & very appreciative, audience.

Our annual Art Summer Exhibition showcased artwork of extraordinary quality and diversity in a range of media.

The MFL Department production of the iconic Les Misérables in the historic setting of Big School, all in French, was powerful & emotive as the talented cast proved to be masters of the house.

Students of all ages participated in a range of drama productions from the weekly Junior Drama Club, to year-group events, to the House Drama competitions: supported by students, staff, & professionals.

Just beautiful weather conditions for the sports team photographs in the historic setting of the courtyard: sunshine & smiles all round.

A whole host of trips – both academic & co-curricular – saw students immersing themselves in a wealth of opportunities outside the classroom as they challenged & stretched themselves.

Friendship, camaraderie, & just spending quality time together is what make communities such as the RGS so special.

The focus, the pain, & finally the exhilaration! Period 8 sees the students challenge themselves weekly in a diverse range of activities.

The five Field Days throughout the year – in which the teaching is suspended for the day –sow the seeds in our students of life-long interests & passions.

The immaculately prepared wickets at Bradstone Brook provided the setting for a succession of individual & team highlights across the age-groups, as well as sportsmanship & smiles in equal measure.

On a beautiful day at Guildford Spectrum for Sports Day, seven school records were broken, some in spectacular fashion!

The 1st football team won the Independent Schools National Shield Trophy, beating local rivals Cranleigh School 4 – 0 in the final: our first national trophy in football since before the Second World War….

…and the celebrations were well worth the wait!

Charitable initiatives, volunteering events, donations, & much more meant the RGS continued to focus on helping others. Some events were more enjoyable than others!

Thanks to the incredible generosity & kindness of the whole school community, this academic year has seen the RGS raising for charity an absolutely incredible... £36,808.47!

The Leavers’ Ceremony, our graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023, at Holy Trinity preceded the start of the glittering RGS Leavers’ Ball: a fitting send-off for an amazing year group.

A sparkling finale as the Class of 2023 signed off with a bang, as the Old Building & Guildford’s night sky were lit up in celebration.

Our strong links between the RGS & Bhu Pu School in Besishahar, Nepal continued as the RGS welcomed staff and students to the UK for a visit.

RGS senior staff visited each of our international schools, & we welcomed our overseas colleagues to experience the heritage and ethos of the RGS.

Great to see so many Old Guildfordians kindly & generously giving of their time to return to speak to, & inspire, our students.

Recent Old Guildfordians returned in numbers to reconnect & reminisce for just one of our old boy events this term.

The RGS was honoured to welcome an esteemed –albeit two-dimensional

figure to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

Thank you to every single individual – students and parents, staff and governors, and the wider community alike – who have contributed so much to this Trinity Term, as participation and opportunity, camaraderie and enjoyment remained very much at the heart of our ethos. And served to highlight that school days really are the best days of your life!
