GUILDFORD
In the historic Tudor heart of the RGS, the walls of School Room are adorned with Latin inscriptions which were intended to give an indication of the educational philosophy of the School. The inscription HAEC OLIM MEMINISSE JUVABIT reminds us all that, “It will be pleasant in some future time to remember these things”, or to put it another way, “School days are the best days of your life”. Achievement – in both the curricular and co-curricular spheres – is important for every individual’s self-esteem and yet this term’s edition of The Register does not focus primarily on exceptional successes, rather it unashamedly celebrates the joy of friendship and laughter, community and teamwork. The best days of your life!
The beginning of the school year reminds us that friendship and togetherness are the foundations upon which success is built.
With a return to a normal public examination season, our GCSE and A Level students celebrated richly-deserved results, built on hard work, dedication and pride.

Charity and volunteering opportunities abounded, including the SMT Midnight Marathon Tudor Trek, Stand-up Comedy Evening and Christmas Fair. Thank you to every single individual – boys and parents, staff and governors, and the wider community alike – who have contributed so much to this Michaelmas Term, as flexibility, kindness and compassion remained very much at the heart of our ethos. It was yet another illustration of the fact that, far from rhetoric, #RGSTogether is a reality.
