The RGS Today Tuesday 24 March 2020 Issue 431

ALWAYS STRIVE TO IMPROVE YOURSELF #TOGETHER

Today’s Reminders Daily Routine Reminders: Well done for immersing yourselves in remote learning in such a committed, mature way today. The staff are working tirelessly to become as proficient as possible with the technology; your support and co-operation are very much appreciated. Rest assured, we’ll get even better! Just a reminder about some of the key headlines for this week: 

Tutors will be logged in and available between 8.45am and 9.15am. Every single student should make contact with their Tutors twice a day: once between 8.45am – 9.00am; once between 4.00pm – 4.15pm at the end of the day. Your Tutors will advise you how to do this.

The school timetable will be followed as closely as possible. All students should be logged into the appropriate class on Microsoft Teams for all periods when they would be taught, as per the timings of the school timetable. For the First Form, Period 5 will run from 12.05pm – 12.45pm in line with other year groups.

Social Distancing: The Press is full of concerns about social distancing; this is, however, a very real issue. Every single one of us has a responsibility to adhere strictly to the guidelines. Despite being young, you are, sadly, not immune or invincible. Younger people are increasingly being admitted to hospital. We absolutely must protect ourselves, our families and our key workers. This is a stark but important point of reflection: “If someone called you today and confirmed you tested positive for COVID-19 and asked you to list all the places you’ve been and all the people you’ve had contact with in the last 14 days would you feel proud or embarrassed?”

Resource of the Day Resources: Numerous publishers and providers have generously extended free use of their digital products to all. These are not just for schoolwork, but for leisure reading and entertainment as well. These will be added to the Library’s Sharepoint pages and tweeted as links @RGSGLibrary. Today’s resource is Audible. Go to https://stories.audible.com/start-listen to hear free audiobooks for all ages, in English and other languages. There is no need to create an account or enter any details, just choose your book and start listening. Why not give it a go? (TFF)

Wellbeing Screen Time: We would strongly suggest that you have sustained periods each day where you are away from screens, whether that be computers, laptops, televisions or phones. Wellbeing: Remember to keep looking after yourselves. Your wellbeing is the most important thing: Healthy and Balanced Diet: Being at home increases the temptation to snack. A healthy diet gives our organs and tissues adequate nutrition to work effectively and reduces risk of disease and illhealth: this simply could not be more important at the moment. Focus: Being engaged in a fulfilling activity provides a sense of engagement, meaning and purpose. Stay focused, take pride and you will increase your wellbeing. Remote learning is not just good for you; it’s great for you!

The Daily J-A-M Challenge

Just do it!

The J-A-M: The Just-A-Minute challenge. At the same time each day as you would be walking between classes, we invite you to take the one-minute J-A-M challenge. Take just 60 seconds between lessons. Today is the press-up challenge; this can be done absolutely anywhere but why not do it outside and get some fresh air at the same time? Another challenge tomorrow. Press-ups: How many press-ups can you complete in just sixty seconds. You have eight chances at this (between lessons). Record the number each time and see if you can make progress by the end of the day. The staff will be doing this as well! Perfect Award-winning Technique: Back straight, hips not lifted or sagging. Keep your toes and heels together. Hands at chest level, shoulder width apart, elbows tucked in close to the body rather than pushing out wide. Eyes looking at the ground. Go down until your chest is 1 inch or 2½ cm off the ground. Now go for it!

Today’s Cryptic Challenge Today’s Teaser: Can you identify the RGS teachers’ surnames and their subjects below? Just one slight issue, all of the vowels and spaces have been removed! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
