National Aids/Alzheimer’s Awareness Months
By Dacie Gayle
N
ovember and December are two of the most festive and joyful months of the year. In November, we come together as families, friends and loved ones to demonstrate how thankful we are for our many blessings . In December, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and anticipate the coming year. During these two months where you are surrounded by family friends take the time to reflect on two very serious diseases that brought to our awareness on during these months; Alzheimer’s disease in November and AIDS in December. Alzheimer’s disease is a form of Dementia, which destroys memories and eventually causes the inability to perform simple everyday tasks. 1 Researchers and doctors alike are unsure of the causes on Alzheimer’s. Factors include environment, genetics and lifestyle. While Alzheimer’s is most commonly known as being a disease that is contracted at old age, early onset Alzheimer’s has been known to occur in adults in their 40’s and 50’s. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s. Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS is an autoimmune disease which severely weakens your immune system causing to become highly susceptible to RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
dangerous infections.2 AIDS is the final stage of HIV, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and left untreated is given a prognosis of 3 years. 3There is currently no cure for HIV or Aids. HIV can only be spread through the transfer of bodily fluids. The most common manner in which HIV is spread is through unprotected sexual activity. During these two months where we are surrounded by family and friends, be sure to speak to the individuals in your life about these two disorders. Carefully monitor the aging and elderly and have them see a doctor if you notice frequent lapse in names/locations, vision/spatial issues or difficulties with reasoning ,4 as those are early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Speak to the young adults in your circle about safe sex options and frequent STD testing. We have come to the time of the year where family and loved ones are most appreciated and cherished, make sure to be vigilant of your loved ones in order to create more memories as the year’s progress. 1

Family Matters Marriage and Family Matters
C
an Christian marriages weather the storms they are facing in today’s culture? The answer is unequivocally, "Yes!" Christian marriages are not built by cultural norms, religious relativism and legislative rules. Instead, they are built solely upon the word of God. In God’s creative design for mankind, He hardwired husband and wife to be lovers. In Genesis 1:28, He commanded them to “be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion" In this text, God set a model for all marriages and families. There is no substitute or amendment to the order. It must begin with the fruit of love. The biblical love command in this text is a choice God placed upon Adam and Eve to act lovingly towards each other. Hence, in Genesis 2:24, Adam acted lovingly towards Eve when God brought her to him. He accepted her as his co-equal and partner when he recognized her as “bones of his bones and flesh of his flesh.” Then Adam moved on to feeling when he expressed his love in verse 25, and the two became one flesh. When a married couple reverses that order, by acting toward their spouses and family, in love because of feelings, it places the marriage and the family relationship in long-term jeopardy. Most Christian marriages were started on romantic feelings, and now they are having problems because they reversed God’s model for love. Biblical marriage is not built on the emotional feelings, fuzzy bubbles caused by chemical release of dopamine, pheromones, PEA, or serotonin etc. Instead, Christian marriage should begin with the obedience to the first command of Genesis 2:24 to “be fruitful.” Before God commanded the multiplication of RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
children, care of the family and the establishment of a godly colony to the first couple, He commanded Adam and Eve to be “fruitful." We can infer from the text that God wanted us before we had children to subdue and dominate creation, by first demonstrating or producing the right fruit in our relationships. When God created mankind in Gen. 1:26, He placed the fruit of love within him when He blew His breath and Adam became a living soul. Adam and Eve’s offspring were not only to be the physical fruit of the pair through multiplication, but through the fruit of love they would reflect “the image of God” through their love one towards another. When God created Adam and Eve, in Genesis 1:25-28; 2:21-15, He created them with perfect love for God, self and others. Adam’s love and appreciation of God grew when God came walking in the garden in the cool of the day to fellowship with him. (Genesis 3:8) During this time of fellowship, Adam got to know and experience a wonderful, loving communion with God. Christian marriage and family will survive this culture attack when it functions with the key ingredient of love for God, self and others as Adam and Eve did. Please look out for the continuation of this article in the next edition of Rhema!

“You Are Not Forsaken” BY WILLIAM E. DICKERSON II, PASTOR AND OVERSEER
The historical setting for the prophetic ministry of Isaiah, son of Amoz in Isaiah 49:14-26 was Jerusalem during the reign of four kings of Judah: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. Known as "the eagle-eyed" prophet, Isaiah was an educated man most likely born to an influential, upper-class family in Jerusalem. He had gifts as a poet and a prophet, which were used mightily to give prophetic counsel to kings concerning Judah's foreign affairs. Isaiah prophesied during the threatening expansion of the Assyrian empire the final collapse of the northern kingdom of Israel and the spiritual decline of Judah, the southern kingdom.
T
he purpose of the book of Isaiah is a threefold approach:
1) The prophet first confronted his own nation and other contemporary nations with the word of the Lord concerning sin and God's coming judgment. 2) Through prophetic revelation, Isaiah prophesied hope to future generations of Jewish exiles who would be restored from captivity and redeemed by God to be a light to the Gentiles. 3) Finally, Isaiah prophesied that God was going to send the Davidic Messiah whose salvation would eventually encompass all the nations of the earth, thus providing hope for God's people under both the Old and New Testaments. In chapter 49 of Isaiah, it deals with the Messiah and starting at verse eight, it undertakes the restoration of Israel. In verses 14-17, the theme is "the Lord has forsaken me." These words are those of the Israelites who in the midst of great adversity, felt abandoned by God. God's response, however gave them divine assurance just as He gives believers today who keep their faith and trust in Him. These verses teach us the following: 1) Jehovah God's love for us is greater than the natural affection of a mother for her children. It is RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
unthinkable that He will ever forget us especially in times of despair. Please read Jeremiah 31:20. 2) His compassion for us will never fail regardless of life's circumstances and challenges. He watches over us with tenderness and concern. We may rest in the conviction that He will not abandon us. Please read 2 Corinthians 4:9. 3) The evidence of God's love is that He has engraved us on the palms of His hands so that He could never forget us. His wounds are always before His eyes and reminds us of the great love He has showered on us. Please read Hebrews 6:10. We need to keep our memories alive in regards to past deliverances. If God delivered you before, He can do it again. Quote the word which states: • Deut 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he would never leave you nor for sake you." • Psalm 94:14: "For The Lord will not reject his people, he will never forsake his inheritance." We need to go back to our praying grounds and pray for weak saints, sin, lost souls and those who are vacillating spiritually due to the cares of this life. You are not forsaken. The Lord is with you. rhemamagazine.com 17

The Making of a Miracle

verybody loves a miracle, especially at Christmas time,” said Pastor Brenda White in response to the question, “What makes this season special for you?” She throws her head back. Her dimples deepen as she reflected on the parallel journeys of the congregation she now pastors as well as her own personal story. It was the early 1990s. Boston, like other major metropolitan cities struggled under the pressure of the sinking national economy. Crime was on the rise. Companies were downsizing and the construction industry slowed to a crawl. Despite the dire outlook, the Miracle on Harvard Street was slowly taking root. Faith Christian Church’s congregation was beginning to grow. We were hopeful of continuing construction on the foundation that we had erected at 301 Harvard Street. However, it was impossible to secure financing. Our foundation stood unfinished for over a decade. Beams were rusting. Cracks were forming in the walls and weeds with thorny thistles and dandelions appeared to mock our dreams. Faith taught us that a dream delayed is not a dream denied. Long before the sanctuary’s completion, our Overseer Bishop Leroy Greenaway declared that the finished dream would become “The Miracle on Harvard Street!” Many churches that begin in hotel rooms or small storefronts have dreams of erecting sanctuaries that members can point to and say, “Look what the Lord has done.” Our congregation was no exception. Bishop Greenaway first spotted an empty lot at Harvard Street and sought to acquire it for building a church surrounded by low-income housing. After several
RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
attempts to purchase the property, he obtained the deed for the miraculous cost of $1.00! “Faith starts as a seed but it’s not fully formed until it is tested,” said Pastor Brenda White. “I have seen our sanctuary being transformed from a dream in the heart of my dad to the radiant edifice that stands today, at 301 Harvard Street. This has inspired me to anticipate successes in my personal journey despite setbacks,” said Pastor White. In the unfolding stories, we see a church and our Senior Pastor becoming battle-tested and emerging with awesome testimonies. Pastor Brenda White is the third of five children born to Bishop Leroy and Pastor Elvina Greenaway. Her parents built a thriving ministry on the island of Montserrat before migrating to the United State seeking better educational opportunities. Brenda was a gifted student who took full advantage of her parents’ sacrifice to uproot and start over. She tested into Boston Latin School as one of the youngest students for her class. She graduated at age 16 and secured scholarship to Boston University, where she majored in Management Information Systems. While in college, Brenda became a certified programmer, which put her on a trajectory for being fast-tracked for management roles in corporate America. While rhemamagazine.com 20

excelling academically, she also made time to serve alongside her parents in ministry. Brenda sang in the choir and later became leader of the youth ministry. Her leadership skills were effectively displayed as the youth ministry grew and teens were radically transformed. She recruited a handful of energetic and talented young adults to serve with her. To this day, teens who are now young adults look back with grateful hearts to the life-transforming experiences that continue to serve them well into adulthood. Even as Pastor Brenda was achieving academic, career and ministry success, there were significant personal setbacks. She got married quite young and soon gave birth to three girls, two of whom are twins. The union did not last. As devastating as that chapter was in Brenda’s life, she can honestly describe her growth during that period. She explains, “I didn’t just talk about the pain and disappointment. I certainly did not obsess about my loss or the challenge of raising three preschoolers as a single mother. Instead, I kept a stiff upper lip; focused on the bright side; the positive things in my life, and above all pray, pray and pray some more!” She continued, “I am forever grateful for this legacy or DNA code from my parents, which not only reveals dogged determination but also instructions for maturity and development into a faith that produces miracles.”
and realization.” This is the story of Christ that she fervently preaches. On September 13th, 2015 the church celebrated a memorable Installation Service, which marked the smooth passing of the leadership baton from Bishop and Reverend Greenaway to Brenda White who was installed as Senior Pastor. Today Pastor Brenda, Associate Pastor, evangelist-extraordinaire, Cuthbert Joseph and the Faith Christian Church family unite in pursuing our purpose to impact the community of Greater Boston and beyond.
God restores broken pieces.
Brenda completed her Master’s in Business Administration at Boston College. She landed a corporate position that allowed her to wonderfully provide for her children. After being single for 18 years and successfully raising her daughters and enrolling them in college, she found love again. This December, she and husband Clay White will celebrate their second wedding anniversary. Pastor Clay, a champion of the faith, is Director of Affiliated Ministries of Faith Christian Church.
September 13th also marked the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. As the body of Christ, we embrace the new beginning with all of its boundless possibilities. Philippians 3: 12-14 perfectly reflects Pastor Brenda’s attitude at this significant crossroad. Especially, “I have not yet attained...I press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Pastor Brenda stands on a foundation that abounds with examples that, “When all hope is lost, God does His miracle, radically transforming lives and restoring hope.”

Significance of a Grandmother's Wisdom By Harriet Holder
I
did not know the significance of my grandmother's wisdom when I growing up. I was left with five other siblings under her parenting when my mother left me in her care to pursue a better life for us in America in the late 1960's.
I was quite surprised that my grandmother left them for me.
She loved flowers and agriculture which she grew into a business so that she could sell her vegetables downtown Barbados. Instead of taking wisdom from her, and learning the essence of her business, we could not wait to come to America to a better life. After she came to America in 1971, she missed her gardens and she returned to Barbados in 1976.
My grandmother took my hand, and led me behind her house in the back where she had her fruit trees. She said to me that I had just finished eating a mango, and was about to throw away the seed when she said "give it to me." She said that she took the seed and she planted it. She pointed to the most spectacular sight of a tree full of mangoes hanging down everywhere.
I remember visiting her 1986 in Barbados, and eating a mango that she gave me. I was about to throw the seed into the trash when she said to me, "Give it to me." I asked her what she was going to do with it, and she said that she was going to plant it. I did not know then that she was teaching me the strategy of sowing and reaping. The Bible says in Genesis 8:22: "While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease."
With eyes big as a saucer, I looked at her and then at the tree. My grandmother's wisdom was so profound that I encouraged me to author a book titled, "The Power of One Seed."
I left Barbados, never return until July 2000 for a crusade. I did not know that July was when mangoes were harvested. When I arrived to the apartment complex, there were two large buckets of mangoes at the door. My mother called me later that day and asked me if I had seen the mangoes. RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
After a few days into the crusade, I went to visit my grandmother and she met me outside her house. She asked me if I got the mangoes. I said to her, "Yes," and she stood there staring at me. She said, "You do not remember."
My grandmother may not know that she taught a significant lesson, but the skilled of her teaching was so silent that it could of gone unnoticed it had not for the grace of God. So let us learn to notice and learn to heed the wisdom of our grandmothers and grandfathers. The Reverend Harriet Holder is President of Liberty International Ministries

"But I trust in you, Lord; I say, 'You are my God.'" - Psalm 31:14
ngela had to trust in the Lord to navigate through the journey of her life. At the age of 8, she and her mother Annette moved to Boston from Montserrat, West Indies. Angela had to assimilate to the new culture quickly. She lived with her grandmother and mother the majority of her teenage years. Her mother worked hard and was determined to make a better future for herself and her daughter. Her grandmother made sure to instill the importance of going to church and developing a relationship with the Lord. Together, they attended Bethel Tabernacle Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Thomas Weekes. This is where Angela was baptized at an early age and began her journey of trust and faith. After completing high school at Boston Latin School, Angela attended Salem State College to pursue a career in Nursing. While at Salem State College, Angela experienced two significant deaths, the murder of her cousin and the death of her grandmother. The senseless murder of her cousin prompted her to pursue a career in Social Work, concentrating on working with at risk youth. While at Salem State, Angela met some friends who invited her to attend Holy Tabernacle Church with them. Building a network of Christian friends, she rededicated her life back to the Lord in 1991. However, even with this support system in place, a few years later, Angela found herself pregnant and not married. Devastated, disappointed and in despair, Angela thought her life was over and wanted to end it. Angela later informed her pastor, the late Bishop Joe L. Smith, Sr. about her pregnancy and the current state that she was in. Bishop Smith was very RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
encouraging and supportive through his words and prayers. He truly demonstrated the love that God has for His people. The love and support Angela received from her Bishop, family and friends coupled with her trust in the Lord helped her to press through and grow in the faith that the Lord would see her through. After the death of Bishop Joe L. Smith, Angela found herself wandering, but later found solitude in attending Greater Love Tabernacle, where she has been a member for 14 years. Angela has served on several ministries, including the Greeters, Single Mom’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry. She was licensed as a Missionary in January 2012. She served as New Members' instructor and then was ordained a Minister by her pastor, The Reverend William E. Dickerson, II in August 2013. The time at Greater Love Tabernacle has helped Angela through her healing and deliverance process, while restoring her faith and ability to handle life’s challenges. Pastor Dickerson would instill in her and other congregants that “Greatness is in you.” Throughout Angela’s journey, she learned that the Christian walk is more than just going to church. A relationship with the Lord is necessary for spiritual growth. She is a firm believer that you must cultivate your relationship with the Lord by praying, reading your word and fellowshipping with other Bible believers. Along with these accomplishments, Angela is most proud of her son, Deondre. He has successfully completed high school and is now pursuing a degree in Law Enforcement.

My First Financial Education Crash Course By Nicholas T. Josey

efore I ever sold financial products or began teaching financial literacy, my family experienced devastation that forever changed our lives. Some 41 years later, because of our of lack finances at the time, it still impacts my family today.
My first super hero still today is buried in an unmarked grave, and because of our family experience I am dedicated to engage, educate and empower everyone about the importance of saving for emergencies, as well as having life insurance so that they will not have to bury their loved ones or heroes in a Potter's Field.
Financial literacy was not a known term to me or any of my family members. Growing up in the 1970s with seven brothers and three sisters, my family didn’t have a lot of money but we had plenty of food and lots of love. Then, suddenly, our peace of mind as a family was shattered when our oldest brother,“Junior,” was taken from us at the age of 23.
The term financial literacy may sound intimidating to some, but Vincita’s mission as financial educators is to make complex financial terms and concepts simple to understand. We focus on five key personal finance areas: Cash Management/Savings, Insurance Planning, Investment Planning, Retirement Essentials and Estate Planning Basics.
I remember hearing my family ask, “How much is Junior’s funeral going to cost?”“How much is available in savings?” There was absolutely no mention of life insurance or how his two young sons would be provided for now that their dad was gone.
Our method of educating participants through our workshops does not involve offers or sales of any financial or insurance products. With increased financial knowledge, we believe that families are able to make better informed financial decisions – before a crisis.
While our family was coping with the sudden loss of Junior, our dad quickly and quietly emptied the family savings accounts, and humbly asked for assistance from others to cover the remainder of the funeral services. Our dad did obtain enough for the services, but not enough the burial. He had learned about a large plot of land referred to as Potter's Field where anyone could be buried for free. However, families were not allowed to have grave markers or headstones.
The Vincita Institute is a trusted and reliable provider of financial education and financial coaching services, dedicated to helping families and small businesses. I sincerely hope to speak to you soon. Nicholas T. Josey

s this year winds down, we can look back at the year’s events and see that 2015 appears to have had fewer highs than lows: Freddie Gray’s death at the hands of Baltimore police and the city’s and nation’s subsequent eruption into violence and protests; the emergence to prominence of the “Black Lives Matter” Movement because of inordinate deaths of black men and one woman, Sandra Bland, while in police custody; the national institution of gay marriage at the ruling of the hands of a few on the United States Supreme Court; the Blood Moon phenomena and fears of the world coming to an end; multiple plane crashes and casualties; terrorist threats from ISIS; the immigrant / migrant crisis in Syria and Europe; Ben Carson, Donald Trump and the Republican candidates versus Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and the Democrats as they vie to succeed President Barack H. Obama; Starbucks and other companies attempting to eradicate the memory of Christmas altogether from their products; the multiple, coordinated murderous attacks in Paris and at the time of this printing, nearly their 200 slain victims and finally, the tough spiritual, emotional and financial times for many close to home in our neighborhoods. What does this mean for the person who believes in and calls on the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior? Our demonstration of love one for another with those familiar and strangers alike will capture the attention and hopefully the hearts of those who may not know true love. Our outward and even verbal thanksgiving for the goodness of God and all that He has blessed us with will grab the ears of those who may not have even heard about our one, true God. A warm smile, nice greeting or small act of kindness during this time will win the lost. These gestures may even help to save lives. It is easy to get caught up in “routine” holiday preparations. Some comment about the origins of Thanksgiving. Others spar over the theological soundness of having Christmas trees and wreaths in homes and churches during the time set aside to remember and observe the birth of our One and true world changer, Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us. Let us not fall into those distractions. Let us share the light that the Lord has given to us with others. Thanksgiving was declared a federal holiday in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. December 25, Christmas Day, was declared a federal holiday in the US in 1870. In spite of all that might ail us, let us celebrate! Let us give thanks! Let us use our freedom to legally observe both holidays to get back to the basics of sharing God’s love. Let us win the hungry, lost, homeless and hopeless to our only hope, Jesus Christ. rhemamagazine.com 29

Phase Out the Man Written by David Carruthers, Author of Kill Your Giants & REACTORS We the advocates of the demonic realm do now review and sum up this meeting
1.
Our plan to phase out the man will consist of three potent ways: We utilize the argument of Women’s Liberation. Even though this was created in 1965 and was in full force by 1970, we will expand this concept and continue to say that the woman’s voice and worth are undermined, underestimated and undervalued. Because the brain can only deal with one sensation or thought at a time and women are emotional, they will buy into this theme because it makes them feel good. As a result, they will continue to undermine their husbands' voices and roles and challenge their methods. When this continues, this will cause them to be exhausted and to exit, leaving the children without guidance and structure. 2. We Create Competition We market the need for women in power. We will place them in high- powered positions which will give them a higher salary than the man. This may invariably cause the man to feel insecure. But if that does not work, the educated woman who now feels empowered will reject her spouse’s instructions due to her higher salary. Being told what to do by a man will be viewed as dated and disrespectful. We will market continually a woman’s world, thus giving the woman a high sense of worth. Because a woman has the ability to raise a child on her own we will give her child RHEMA MAGAZINE: NOV/DEC 2015
support. We use that to heighten her confidence while subliminally drowning out the need for male presence. 3. We Use the Media The day for positive family TV like "The Cosby Show" is over. We are advertising bad girls, beautiful girls and women who can do what men do. We will show women with guns, women in charge and women who do not submit. The power of the media works. - look at the divorce rate. Fortunately, where the media goes, society goes. We will market men as being lazy, confused and violent. We will also market to the man low -level ideas that will keep him away from destiny. This will leave very little choice but for women to take charge and get it done themselves. While she will be successful financially, she will also destroy her own family. Phasing out the man is quite easy when Christians don’t pray and follow their Bible. Their order is incredible if Christians followed what was written in the Bible, but if not, then we can produce a divorce rate among Christians that is just as high as the world. We thrive off lazy Christians who are hearers and not doers of the word of God. Our hope is that they will never wake up. That way our plan to phase out the man will be complete. rhemamagazine.com 31

Isaiah 9 1-16
New King James Version
1 Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, As when at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of the Gentiles. 2 The people who walked in darknessHave seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,Upon them a light has shined. 3 You have multiplied the nationAnd increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest,As men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian. 5 For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. 8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob, And it has fallen on Israel. 9 All the people will know— Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria— Who say in pride and arrogance of heart: 10 “The bricks have fallen down, But we will rebuild with hewn stones; The sycamores are cut down, But we will replace them with cedars.”

11 Therefore the Lord shall set up The adversaries of Rezin against him, And spur his enemies on, 12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. For all this His anger is not turned away, But His hand is stretched out still. 13 For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, Nor do they seek the Lord of hosts. 14 Therefore the Lord will cut off head and tail from Israel, Palm branch and bulrush in one day. 15 The elder and honorable, he is the head; The prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail. 16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed.
