Health Beach Safety Tips RHEMA
uly and August are prime beach time. We all grab our towels, picnic baskets and sunglasses and are ready to spend some quality time on the sand. The beach can be fun. However, if you aren’t careful, dangerous situations can happen. Here are a few helpful tips to be mindful of while at the beach this summer. 1. Be sure to visit beaches with lifeguards Many beaches in the United States don’t have lifeguards on sight. According to research, your chances of drowning are one in eighteen with a lifeguard present. i If you are unable to swim or are responsible for young children, be sure to research beaches in your area that have this resource. Lives can be saved if lifeguards are present.
3. Obey signs and flags Many beaches have signs and flags posted in various areas. Be sure to look at these signs and ask the lifeguard what they mean if you are unsure. These are there to keep you safe. There are warning signs that have a yellow background which show what you should be careful of. Regulatory signs have red circles with a diagonal slash across it that tell you what is not allowed at the beach. Information signs are blue and safety signs tend to be green. iii Have fun at the beach this summer! Remember to be careful and keep the above tips in mind.
2. Be careful of rip currents Rip currents occur when water is pushed onto the shore and then is forcefully pulled back away from the shore at a high speed. This is a very dangerous occurrence. Approximately eighty percent of lifeguard rescues are due to rip currents. If ever caught in a rip current, you should swim parallel to the current instead of trying to fight it. Be sure to call for help if you feel that you will not be able to make it out of the current on your own. ii RHEMA MAGAZINE: JULY/AUG 2016

By Dr. Daniel Vassell t is a reality! Male and female are created by God with the relationship code to seek out each other and to be friends and lovers. It is not an either-or; or a neither-nor. It is both! Imbedded in the first command given to the first couple in Genesis 1:28 was, “Be fruitful.” God commanded the first couple to produce fruits of love, which included friendship love. If love was a priority for God, couples must endeavor to keep their friendship love as a priority in their marriage. Why? When the high rush of romantic love dwindles and loses its luster and when sexual love decreases in passion and regularity, friendship love should get better and better with age and with time. It will get better if couples intentionally work at it. One problem with Phileo love is that too many couples forget how their marital relationship began. In most cases, it began with friendship. In the writer’s opinion and his years of experience working with couples and with families, it does appear that more marriages started with Phileo love than with romantic love. Several couples’ testimonials revealed they started their relationship with Phileo love. Phileo is a Greek word that means “brotherly love” and translates as “friendship” or “affection.” It is a love that exists between very close friends. It is a love that awakens close companionship and evokes friendship. Phileo love helps spouses to see and to appreciate the worth and value of each other in correlation to their ongoing relationship. Most marriages-friendships began because of the commonalities; interests; likes and dislikes and same values and beliefs. These commonalities built the friendship cluster of two friends traveling in the RHEMAMAGAZINE: MAGAZINE:NOV/DEC JULY/AUG2015 2016 RHEMA
same ship and going in the same direction. The friendship becomes so life fulfilling that both persons chose to continue to travel in their exclusive ship together, “marriageship.” Marriage is not the end of Phileo. It is the breeding ground for it to flourish uninhibitedly. However, friendship love must be nourished and nurtured on a regular basis or it faces the danger of becoming a common relationship. Marriage friendship should not and cannot be a common relationship if it is going to weather the ups and downs of marital issues. Marriage friendship is the life-blood and emotional connection that will keep couples committed to each other when they go through the stages of marriage and the challenges. Couples that fail to give proper attention to developing their friendship often see their relationships come apart and do damage to themselves; their marriage; family; health; wealth; spirituality and community. Husbands and wives , do not allow the time you invest with your schedules; work; raising families; finance issues; church activities and taking care of life issues to tax your relationship to a level where undue stress cause your friendship to grow apart. Phileo love was given in marriage for you to enjoy each other’s company. Doing things together to cultivate that friendship and companionship is essential to Phileo Me…Babe. Look out for ideas in the next issues of things you can do together to enrich your friendship…And Phileo your Babe!

Jahi Tracy: Poised for Fencing Gold
By Dacie Gayle ahi Tracy was born on May 4, 2000 to his loving parents, Ife and Conrad Tracy in Boston, Massachusetts. His younger brother Jude was born a few years later. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy have walked with God for most of their lives and brought up their sons in Christ as well. In 2009, the Tracys started Open Door Christian Worship Center, located in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Not only is Jahi the amazing guitar player for the church, he also has another gift: fencing. While watching the London 2012 Summer Olympics, Jahi was intrigued by the sport of fencing. He had been looking for a sport that he could participate in and after watching the Olympics Jahi thought that fencing might have been it. In October 2012, Jahi took a beginner’s course in fencing, learning the sport’s mechanics. After completing that course, Jahi moved on to the intermediate level in March 2013. He then joined Boston Fencing Club and began competing at the Youth Competitive. Once Jahi began competing, he quickly realized that fencing was his gift. In his first year in Youth Competitive, Jahi not only qualified for Regionals but for Nationals as well. Fencing etiquette demands that all fencers must have their club jackets at all matches, ready to be worn if they are placed in the RHEMA MAGAZINE: JULY/AUG 2016
match. At the Junior Olympic qualifying match, Jahi realized that he forgot his jacket. Although he loved having his dad watch his matches, he asked his dad to return home from Waltham to Boston to get his jacket. Jahi had a good feeling that he would need his jacket that day and he was right. He won first place. When this past season began in August 2015, Jahi’s goal was to continue to improve. So far, Jahi has exceeded his goal. Jahi placed 24th out of more than 200 competitors at the North America Cup. He qualified for the Junior Olympics in Cleveland, Ohio and won first place in the Regional Junior Olympics. Jahi states that he prays and reflects on God’s word while competing. He believes that he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him. His parents often tell him to rely on God and that they are proud of him as long as he tries his best. We at RHEMA Magazine are very proud of Jahi’s endeavors and pray for his success at the Nationals tournament in July as well as his continued success. rhemamagazine.com 16
VIOLENCE IN AMERICA BY WILLIAM E. DICKERSON JR. - PASTOR AND OVERSEER ur nation has had a history of violence going back to when the indigenous people of this country were violently treated including being lynched, raped and killed. The American Indians were here from the beginning of this nation. When Malcolm X mentioned the untimely death of President John F. Kennedy as "chickens coming home to roost," he was silenced by Elijah Muhammad. During that time those words seemed to be very incendiary and insensitive to say the least. However they did carry much truism. Our nation has been very violent towards American Indians, Black Americans and a host of others throughout its history. The Bible clearly states in the book of Galatians 6:7 that, “whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap.” In June 2016 there was a horrible massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida wherein 49 people were murdered. Some in the media reported that this was the worst murderous rampage in American history but that's not true. Did they forget the massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921 in which many Black people were killed by white gunmen? The entire Greenwood District in Tulsa was burned to the ground by White racists. Many of our urban centers in this nation have been continually plagued by needless bloodshed and murders. We are cognizant of unjust police shootings but have far too many incidences of Black-on-Black homicides. The recent violence and bloodshed in Chicago alone is unfathomable. RHEMA MAGAZINE: JULY/AUG 2016
Those who are in the body of Christ understand that the level of violence in our land today is the result of spiritual problems and cannot be rectified by laws, more police officers or political strategies. The church needs to continue to teach peaceful words of instruction to our young people. We need to pray without ceasing and then carry out faith-filled actions to and in the midst of the violent areas of our nation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heave, and will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.” The church of Jesus Christ must take a stand and tell this world that Jesus Christ is the panacea for the violent bloodshed in the land. If one has given their life to Jesus Christ or has committed themselves to certain religious values, then destroying humanity no longer becomes a viable option. The proclivity for violence is exacerbated through early exposure to the media, peers and irresponsible adults. It is therefore imperative that parents cover their children from the negative effects of TV, and the surrounding environmental and video-game depictions of violence. We cannot create a dialogue to talk about "All Lives Matter" until we can sincerely say that "Black Lives Matter." True leaders and people who have a solid moral compass should be ashamed at the level of violence we allow to be released in our world on a daily basis. Our children deserve better and we must work towards peaceful resolves. rhemamagazine.com 17

FREDERICK J. WILSON
Presiding Prelate of the Faith ‘N’ Action Global Fellowship of Churches. native of Boston, Massachusetts, Apostle Frederick J. Wilson was brought up in the heart of Roxbury and later moved to Grove Hall, his old “stomping ground.” He was raised in the church under the guidance of his devout and devoted mother which resulted in him fulfilling the well-known scripture, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Apostle Wilson surrendered his life to the Lord at the young age of twenty-one and never turned back. He met his wife, The Reverend Ruth E. Wilson after she moved to Boston to attend college. They met at Holy Temple Church of Roxbury, MA. After a brief encounter on the stairs, Bishop Wilson recognized the voice of God speaking to him that she would be his wife. This year, they will renew their vows and celebrate 50 years of a blessed and blissful marriage. After an initial struggle with the call on his life, Frederick heeded the voice of God and was ordained in 1982 at Holy Tabernacle Church, where he and Ruth served faithfully under the tutelage of the late Bishop Joe L. Smith. Apostle Wilson formally prepared himself for his calling and received the Master’s Degree in Religious Education from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1984. He continues to seek every available opportunity to broaden his theological study, including completing course work at the Newton-Andover Theological Institute and the Massasoit Community College in Massachusetts. In July 2002, he was consecrated to the Office of Bishop and in October 2015, was affirmed as Apostle while in the midst of commemorating 25 years of pastoral service. rhemamagazine.com 20

Location Matters By Harriet Holder hinking about your retirement and downsizing your belongings to move to a new location can be overwhelming. We know that leaving the state of your birth or relocating to an assisted-living facility can be quite challenging. We hope and pray that you seek the Lord regarding your new location. When you move to right area in the right time, you will receive all the promises that God has ordained for you. Location does matter. We are creatures of habit. We want to do the same thing every day, month and year, even though it might get tedious. Sometimes, like an eagle that stirs its nest, God pushes us out into new territories and regions that we never have been before. Recently, I moved to a new location where everything is different. The noise, the street, the traffic and people - they all are different. My new home is in the same state but a different part of the city. Strange as it seems, even the people act differently. Do we not know that when we change our location, it might be possible for us to receive more of the promises of God than if we would have stayed in the same place? The prophet Elijah was by the brook Cherith when the word of the Lord came to him in 1 Kings 17:9: "Arise, get thee to Zarephath which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I RHEMA MAGAZINE: JULY/AUG 2016
have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. If Elijah had not gone to this new location, the provisions that he needed to survive would have been awaiting, him but he could have missed his destiny. Do not let stubbornness and pride cause you to miss the provisions and promises of God for your life. In the Bible, there were many people who had to change their locations to receive the promises of God. Abraham left his father's house and went to find a city whose builder was God. Joseph was sold into slavery and went to Egypt but received the highest position next to Pharaoh and was able to provide food for seventy members of his family during the seven-year famine. Ruth, a Moabite, followed Naomi to Bethlehem of Judah to receive the greatest blessings of her life: a husband and a baby which made her part of the lineage of Christ. Esther was taken from her family and placed under the care of the servant of the King of Persia. She was part of an entourage of women who were being paraded in front of the king as he chose his new queen. This was God's providence for His people to be safe from destruction. As you can see, location does matter. Being in the right place at the right time can cause the promises of God to be released over your life. Ask, seek and pray for that specific location that can change your whole life. rhemamagazine.com 24

ow do well do you manage your personal finances? I ask this question, because it becomes more important when your money-management practices impacts more than just you. Whether married or in a committed partnership, we all must consider whether we are good money managers.
moved toward a more desirable financial course.
It is often said that in today’s society that two incomes are better than one as it relates to personal finances. I often meet with couples that may have opposing views when it comes to personal money- management styles. With differing money- management habits there is an increased likelihood of some discord around a couple’s finances.
Once you have found that special person that you want to share the rest of your life with, I would strongly encourage you to take your time to learn about their spending, saving, and investing habits. Once the two of you are on the same wealth accumulation page, you will significantly increase the likelihood of your long-term relationship or marital success.
Life can be stressful enough before adding the day-to-day concerns of your ability to meet some or all of your financial obligations. I am currently working with a wonderful couple, Joyce and Andrew. They have been married almost 20 years and have two children, Louise, age 7, and James, age 5. As a couple, Joyce and Andrew realized that they needed a financial coach to educate and guide them toward becoming better stewards of their financial resources.
Take a look at the following: savings accounts, investment accounts, insurance policies, retirement accounts, as well as any estate-planning provisions. Next, you will want to discuss any and all outstanding individual debts, student loans, credit cards, or mortgages. You may also want to discuss various contingency plans which are most important to you. With time and the incorporation of mutually productive financial habits, you will be well on your way toward achieving financial success as a team.
Referred by their next-door neighbors, Joyce and Andrew both wanted to meet with me to develop a plan to increase their financial transparency and to begin to work better as a team. Written by David Carruthers, Author of Kill Your Giants & REACTORS A man only has one escape from his old self; to see a different selfin the mirror of some woman’s eyes. –Claire Boothe Luce
t should be a well-known fact by now that opposites attack and opposites attract. In relationships and marriages, it seems like there’s more attacking than attracting and that is because we do not understand our differences. As I analyze relationships, I am often shocked to see who is with whom. Extraverts often attract introverts, right brain thinkers attract left brain thinkers, and people who are loud attract the shy, quiet type and the list could go on. It is vital to comprehend that this is God’s design. It is His way of simply saying you need the opposite to accomplish the destiny that He has for you. There are many great people who do amazing things but they are lost without their assistants. People who are the same as us keep us in a safe zone and often do not challenge us. Those differences that frustrate us to no end are God’s way of teaching us patience, kindness, faithfulness, love and the other fruits or characteristics of His spirit. If we think about it, the times which we have grown the most were the times we surrendered to differences. We are attracted to women and vice versa, the intrinsic deep feelings that draws one to another is God’s way of getting your attention to fulfill your needs. The basis of attraction goes deeper than physical beauty; it is the quest to satisfy the urge that God has placed in us. That urge is not just sexual but it is also emotional. The very first thing God said after He created Adam was; “it is not good for man to be alone.” That is imperative to grasp because God saw that man alone was incomplete, thus RHEMA MAGAZINE: JULY/AUG 2016
He created Eve as a suitable helpmate. It is impossible to appreciate each other if we are constantly fighting because of our differences. The constant attacking clouds our thinking and now instead of seeing the diamonds we truly are, we just see flaws. Proverbs states that in all you’re getting, understand. What should we understand? A man’s number one need is respect. Years ago I even agreed with Men’s Health Magazine that a man’s first need is sex. This is untrue and very shallow. It is vital that a man is respected in his home. The bible does not state that a woman should love her husband because love is in her nature, but respect is the challenge, which is why God says the woman must respect her husband. There are a lot of men who have left relationships and marriages because they could no longer deal with being disrespected. In contrast, a woman has an undying need to be loved which is why the bible says husbands love your wives. Men by nature are not loving and relational, thus the reason for the command. Men must learn how to love, not leave; it is one of our biggest downfalls. We must understand that God’s ways are not ours and His thoughts are higher than ours. Therefore we must submit to His design to take our nature and mold it into His. At the end of the day we need each other. We can attract more than we attack if we strive to love. Let us strive to understand and appreciate our differences because that is God’s design.

Romans 10
New King James Version
1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, "The man who does those things shall live by them." 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, " 'Who will descend into the abyss?' " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction

between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!" 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world." 19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says: "I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I will move you to anger by a foolish nation." 20 But Isaiah is very bold and says: "I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me." 21 But to Israel he says: "All day long I have stretched out My hands To a disobedient and contrary people."
