Good Evening Welcome to the 3rd Richard Harris International Film Festival. Since we met last year, there have been some significant changes. Jared and Hayman Harris have joined our board of directors and advisory committee. We have a new creative team with Zeb Moore and Sylvia Moore being appointed as festival director and creative director respectively. Rob Gill continues as executive chairman. Eleanor McSherry resigned from the board during the year and we would like to thank her for her contribution to the 2013 and 2014 festivals. We have increased programme content tenfold and we are now a four day festival that includes workshops, casting sessions and Q&A’s. We sincerely hope the hard work, love and dedication, we have put into the preparation of the 2015 festival shines through for all to see. (We really mean blood, sweat and tears!) This year for the first time we opened our festival to International feature film submissions. Using film freeway as our submission platform also opened up our shorts programme to the international film-making community. The response was incredible and we received dozens of submissions from 25 different countries. The board is delighted that so many film-makers from our selected programme have joined us for this year's festival. We are confident our adjudicators have selected a thoroughly enjoyable, and diverse programme for our attendees. 2015 is the first year we have introduced the RHIFF Monologue Competition and the RHIFF Image Competition and the quality and quantity exceeded our expectations. Our Network Evening has attracted production companies from the UK and Berlin - casting Feature Films that are due to shoot in 2016 in the mid-west region. We hope that this festival will continue to showcase Limerick City and its environs to an international audience. On behalf of the organising committee, we would like to thank you for your support of the Richard Harris International Film Festival. With your support we can grow this festival into something for Richard and Limerick to be truly proud of. Festival Board.
Originally from Dublin, moved to the West of Ireland in 2000 and very soon after became involved in the acting scene in Limerick. Since moving he has acted in T.V. series for RTE and TG4, appeared in feature length films, short movies and web series. Constantly involved with theatre whether, acting, producing, directing or teaching Zeb set up “Magic Roundabout Theatre” with writer and actor Darren Maher. Zeb has performed most recently in his one man show “Spinal Krapp” written by Darren Maher. Spinal Krapp has toured extensively since 2010. He has also appeared on stage at the Electric Picnic, Body and Soul and 10 Days in Dublin Festival. He has been involved with acting, theatre and film for 10 years. He hails from a family heavily immersed in the Irish entertainment business; his uncle Butch was Ireland’s first representative in the Eurovision Song contest, 1963, his father is world renowned session musician Des Moore – Riverdance, Celtic Women.
Currently Administrator for EnviroPlastics Ireland and Magic Roundabout Theatre Company, Sylvia’s initial administration experience was gained in the Circuit Court Office in Naas and Kildare Youth Services, where she was manager of the Youth Information Office. As well as managing the office this varied work included volunteer training courses, teaching multimedia to early school leavers, organising the annual KYS Canal Festival fundraiser, weekend workshops for the Youth Projects and the compilation of a Directory of Services for Naas town. Moving to Limerick 15 years ago she has been involved with various committees, mainly in the soccer world and has also sat on the board of Limerick 37 FC. Her first experience “on set” was in the 2003 Feature length film “Somebody’s daughter” by Fade to Black Films. Sylvia has worked with Quarry Players Limerick creating props and costumes. Sylvia has also been quietly involved with many short- film, festival and web-series projects in the city since taking up residence in the Mid West on both a creative and administrative level.
Rob is a Limerick born freelance strategy consultant with many years experience in communications, market research and financial services with Merrill Lynch, Paddy Power, Wealth Insights and Pegasus Creative. He is currently setting up a Limerick based research company. He attended Crescent College following in the footsteps of Richard Harris. A long time fan of Richard Harris and with a deep interest in the arts, Rob is the currently working on a five year plan for the Richard Harris International Film Festival. He is confident the festival will continue to attract Irish Film-makers living abroad.
Richard’s sons, Damian, Jared and Jamie with the Board of Directors have chosen A Man Called Horse as our Gala Screening this evening. It seems hard to believe this film was released 45 years ago; it certainly predates and surpasses many films made 30 years later and more. We do hope you enjoy watching the legendary Richard Harris in this iconic and unequalled role.
In 1825, English big game hunter John Morgan (Richard Harris) is captured and enslaved by a Sioux tribe, forced to labour for tribal matriarch Buffalo Cow Head (Judith Anderson) as a common pack animal. Slowly, with the help of fellow slave Batise (Jean Gascon), Morgan learns his captors' language, and then proves his bravery in a battle with a neighboring tribe, earning their respect. Losing his associations with his previous life as a British aristocrat, Morgan becomes one with the Sioux. Initial Release April 28, 1970 Director Elliot Silverstein
The RHIFF 1 Minute Monologue Competition 2015
Another first for 2015 was the introduction of our 1 Minute Monologue Competition; we had a phenomenal response from actors nationally and plenty of enquiries from UK and Mainland based actors too! PATRICK CASSIDY COMPOSER
We are honoured that Patrick can join us again this year! Patrick was our guest at the inaugural Richard Harris International Film Festival and has become a firm friend! Since he first attended in 2013 Patrick has had many trips back to Ireland, most recently this summer while composing the score for 1916, a three-part documentary series for the BBC, PBS and RTE, which will also be released as a feature film. It will bring the events of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland to a global audience, with narration by Liam Neeson. A renowned Irish born composer of great distinction and reputation, Patrick Cassidy came into prominence with the release of the Children of Lir, (the setting of the great Legend) the first major symphonic work written in the Irish language. Recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra and Choir, it remained at Number One in the Irish Classical Charts for over a year. Notable credits for Patrick include Hannibal, Layer Cake, Veronica Guerin, King Arthur, Ashes and Snow, Kingdom of Heaven, The Front Line, L'Avatoire, Kill the Irishman and most recently the award-winning feature film Calvary, starring Brendan Gleeson. Calvary won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival 2014 and was nominated for a total of six awards at the Irish Film and Television Awards, including Best Original Score. Patrick’s score was also nominated for Best Film Score at the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards 2015, Discovery of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards 2014 and Public Choice Award, also at the World Soundtrack Awards. We hope you enjoy listening to some of Patrick’s works this evening, more details on Patrick’s extensive works and his show reel are available on his website.

Congratulations to our finalists The Judging Committee of the first Richard Harris International Film Festival Portrait Competition comprising of International Irish Visual Artist and Artistic Curator Thomas Delohery based in Melbourne, renowned English Actor/Director Jared Harris based in L.A., Award Winning Irish Fashion Designer Natalie B. Coleman based in the UK and Richard's life long friend Musician and Writer Billy O'Reilly from the US had the unenviable task of not just bringing the overwhelming high standard of entries to the Competition down to 16 finalists, they now have to pick just one winner. The Judging Committee can see the kind of time, effort and talent that all the entries have shown but at the end of the day it's a Competition and there can only be one Winner. We are so thankful to all who entered! The Judging Committee and RHIFF Team.
