General Manager’s Message
from Ahoy! April 2021
by Koko Mueller
General Manager Mark Bovaird
總經理布馬克 After a very positive end to February and beginning of March, with members once again enjoying being out on the water and making use of the Clubhouses, as I write this we are once again in uncertain times, waiting to see if a recent spike in infections is going to result in any tightening of social distancing and sporting restrictions. Fingers crossed the government has managed to get it under control in time. At the Club, we are and must continue to make sure that we all play our part. All the staff is being tested every two weeks, we are carrying out deep cleaning and fogging of each Clubhouse and strictly enforcing the wearing of masks and social distancing measures. With members, staff and guests all working together we will do our very best to keep the Club a safe haven for everyone to enjoy.

This month we present you with a trifecta of Easter celebrations. On Good Friday, 2 April, we are laying on a BBQ Buffet along with games and crafts. The following day, Saturday 3 April, there will be a brunch in the Regatta Room and face painting and game booths on the Main Lawn. And on Easter Sunday itself, 4 April, we have a Family Brunch at the Bistro, again with activities for the younger ones. Please see page 40 for further information.
So that is the children taken well care of, let’s turn to the grownups.
On Thursday 8 April we have a Provence and Beaujolais Wine Dinner – consider it an evening trip to France to enjoy wines from two wine regions with international repute, all paired with an exceptional menu. Our virtual tour next takes us to Portugal on 15 April for a Port themed event just for a change, with the Graham’s Port Wine Dinner taking place in the Compass Room. Graham’s have an incredible reputation, but the firm actually started out in the textiles business and moved into Port only when a customer settled their debt to them with Port instead of cash! The following week we move back to a traditional wine dinner and we have two wineries visiting the Club for the first time – Louis M. Martini and Frei Brothers both of which herald from one of the world’s premier US wine locations; California, USA. Last but not least, our tour brings us full circle back to France and the rescheduled Côte d’Or Wine Dinner bringing you Burgundian wines from Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. For details of all of these, please see within.
If all that ‘travelling’ isn’t enough, how about a trip to Italy and Greece? On 9 April we are having an Antipasto and Pasta Dinner in the Regatta Room at Kellett Island and then on 15 April it’s not far to hop over to Greece – (well Middle Island actually) – where you will have the opportunity to enjoy an evening on the South Side of the Island enjoying Greek food with family and friends.
Last but not least and as mentioned in the weekly emails recently, in order to cover the electricity and administrative costs, the General Committee has agreed that with effect from 1 April the Club will impose a charge of $15 per hour (or part thereof), for use of the Tesla charging stations at Kellett Island and Shelter Cove. The charging stations are only available for use by members with a valid parking label and the charge will be billed to their monthly accounts.
Happy Easter to you all and I look forward to seeing you at the Club.
