Hello and welcome to the 2016 Thor British Youth Nationals. Over the next six rounds we expect the championship to be fun, entertaining and packed with the best youth racing you will see in the UK. Motocross is our primary sport at RHL Activities and we are lucky enough to have the best youth motocross talent at our events in 2016. The first round this year is held at Fat Cat Moto Parc in Doncaster, if you’ve never raced here before, it’s a tough deep sand circuit. Take your time in practice to get to know the track and most of all enjoy your weekend with us. Part of our priority here at RHL Activities is to encourage new riders into our championship, and this year we have lots of new faces who are racing here at round 1 for the first time at British Championship level, we welcome you guys with open arms and the same for the established riders who have experienced the excitement of the series over the last few seasons. Since our very first British Youth National in 2012 the growth for the championship is very impressive, we have grown incredibly with riders who want to taste the excitement of British championship racing, the Thor British Youth Nationals is your stepping stone to the professional ranks at the Maxxis British Championship and for some the World motocross championship. This year we have one of the best riders in the world as part of our team, Shaun Simpson is our BYN Ambassador, he will be available to answer your questions throughout the day at round 1, he’s excited at the thought of helping you guys out. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your amazing support - and we will continue to grow and lead from the front as the best and most professional youth championship in Europe. Lets hope its a great weekend for all, and I hope you enjoy your time with us at Fat Cats. SEE YOU ON THE START LINE

YOUTH OPEN CLASS

Alexander Brown is the British 125 Youth Champion and moves up to the Youth Open Class in 2016 and like Eddie Wade has already showed his rapid pace by already winning races this year. Zander as he likes to be known, could be the rider to catch this season if his early season form is anything to go by.

SW85 CLASS

Another rider who just missed out on a top 3 BYN overall British championship podium was Louie Kessell. Louie was super consistent in 2015 and expect more of the same and better in 2016 from the Cornwall based rider.

65 JUNIOR CLASS

Ollie Colmer finished in 4th place in 2015 in the 65cc Junior class, he’s had the winter to grow his confidence and become a little bit stronger on the bike and challenge for the 2016 British crown.

WHO TO WATCH IN 2016 WE TAKE A LOOK AT WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THE 2016 THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONALS. RIDERS WHO MAY COME OUT SWINGING AND CHALLENGE FOR THE RESPECTIVE CLASS BRITISH TITLES. IT’S LONG, TOUGH SEASON AS THE CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 6 ROUNDS COVERING MUCH OF THE UK FROM APRIL TO SEPTEMBER.

125 CLASS

Most of the last years 125 class riders are now moving up to the Youth Open in 2016, Callum Green made the decision to stay put and focus on his quest to become a British champion. Definitely a rider to watch this season amongst the competitive two stroke 125 riders.

BW85 CLASS

Eddie Jay Wade moves up to the BW85 class having just missed out on the SW85 title in 2015. Word is Eddie is loving his BW85 Husqvarna and has already won races in Europe in 2016. Will Eddie go one better this year at the Thor Youth Nationals and take a British title?

WATCH THE ACTION

WELCOMES YOU TO THE 2016 THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONALS // Hi Shaun Simpson here… Firstly I would like to welcome you to this year’s Thor British Youth Nationals, it’s going to be a very good season ahead for sure. 2016 has brought a new and exciting challenge for me. I will be the all new BYN Ambassador which will be something new and an exciting task for me. This is something that has interested me for a couple of seasons now, I raced through this championship as a schoolboy back in the day. Over a modestly successful career so far I have gained many skills, techniques and pointers that I’m willing to pass down and share with you guys to better your performance and widen your range of access to answers of questions that you may have throughout a racing season. I want to give something back to the sport and hopefully to our future GP riders. I will be attending the first round of the championship at Fatcat and am looking forward to getting started with it all. If you have any questions, beforehand that you might want answering please email me direct at shaunsimpson24@rhlactivities.com Can’t wait to hear from you guys Shaun Simpson British MX1 Champion

R AY C H U S S

After a nightmare ending to his 2015 season when he suffered ligament damage to his leg at the final round of the Thor British Youth Nationals at Fat Cat Moto Parc, things have moved on for 14 year old Tom Grimshaw. Hey Tom, a little birdy tells me you’re moving up to the 125cc class? “I had a great time racing my 85cc bike and really I could have gone another year as I am still only 14, but I was getting to big for 85cc so we made the the choice to move up to 125. This would also keep us in line with European competitions and would give me two years racing 125 before moving up to 250F unless, of course I grow out of the 125.” As you say you ended 2015 with a painful injury, explain what happened at Fat Cats as it looked nasty? “Yes it was a big shame to end my 85cc racing that way. I took a fast left hand corner and stabbed my leg hard into the ground.. At first we thought I had damaged the knee cap but after examination I had over extended the ligaments which was really painful and a brace was fitted.” How long did it take for you to get back riding and what was the rehab like? “I spent one week sitting on the sofa then six weeks recovering with lots of Physio at Nuffield Health which involved lots of swimming schedules, spin cycling & rowing. I was recovering very quickly which was great and unexpected but knowing the 125 was calling from the workshop spurred me on!. We started out with some slow practice sessions and built it upwards until I felt fully comfortable with my knee. I then had a silly

TOM GRIMSHAW off and broke four metatarsal bones in my foot, so it was back to the beginning again. Plaster cast for 6 weeks then to Nuffields Health for 6 weeks rehab. All is 100% now (fingers crossed)” Nice one. Is the plan to just race in the UK in 2016 and build confidence on the bigger bike or are you going into Europe once more, as you seem to enjoy racing there? “The plan was to do selected 125 Europeans but unfortunately this is not the case as we have signed in for the Yamaha European YZ125 Cup which doesn’t allow you to race Europeans this year. As a carrot dangling if you win YZ Cup then Yamaha will take you to Europeans the following year as Full Factory Supported rider, however I will be doing the Dutch Nationals, Selected Internationals & BYN Championship.” You’ve picked up a few sponsors for this year, what’s new? “I have been very lucky through my racing to be well supported by the top brands within our industry and its great continuing our strong relationship. DBC Motorcycles have come on board and will be supplying me with my bikes which is mega. I have also more private sponsors on board to help with my racing financially which I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supports me.”

06 THINGS /01

We had a total of 260 riders participate in this year’s Thor British Youth Nationals from all corners of the UK including Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland. Registration for 2016 is looking really impressive and we’re hoping to hit the magic 300 riders.

/02

Hydration is huge part of staying healthy at the races, our water sponsor Ice Valley supplied the riders with over 5600 bottles of water for the 5 rounds, if you break it down, riders consumed around 29 bottles each.

/03

Bike time is what the riders love at the BYN so each rider has plenty of time to dial in the tracks. Fifteen minutes of practice followed by six blocks of racing over two days. By the time riders head home on Sunday evening most are ready for bed by the time they hit home.

YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE 2015 THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONALS /04

Did you know that over six rounds of racing riders, staff and family members consumed around 18,000 slices of bacon which equates to 9000 extremely tasty Bacon butties.

/05

Our 2015 Thor British Youth Nationals rider of the year was Harry Kimber. Over 600 people took part in the vote to find the eventual winner. The vote was so close we had to count it five times to make sure it was correct.

/06

You guys love watching our BYN videos, in 2015 we produced over 60 Youtube features filmed by the awesome TooFastMedia and over 100 shorter clips for our social media sites. Expect even more in 2016.
