introduction.
Welcome to Preston Docks for round one of the 2018 Judd KTM British Youth National Championship. It’s an exciting time for us here at RHL Activities; we look forward to seeing some great racing and who has made that next step for this season, whilst also welcoming new riders into the championship. We are pleased to welcome Judd Racing and KTM UK onboard as the joint title sponsors for the 2018 Championship, along with Steve Benton Transport as the title sponsors of the British Under 21 Championship. We also welcome Parts Europe, SCOTT Sports, MotoKing, Sports Insure and 1st Call Travel onboard as new Championship sponsors. Once again Dunlop continue their support in the championship as the official tyre sponsors, Live Motocross and TMX & DBR as the official media partners and finally Surf and Turf Instant Shelters are also supporting us. All of our valued partners are incredibly important to the success and progression of the Judd KTM British Youth National Championship. Part of our priority here at RHL Activities is to grow our sport, bring more junior riders into the championship and give our riders the very best platform to develop for the future. Over the last seven years I believe we’ve achieved a lot, and this season we will see another strong line-up of riders across all classes that will benefit from racing with the very best youngsters in the UK on some of the best tracks for their development. The Judd KTM British Youth National Championship is the only gateway for young riders to enter a World Championship event, and we look forward to seeing riders enjoy all the benefits of competing with us, while establishing themselves throughout the ranks of racing. I would like to personally thank you all for your support, and we are of course highly motivated to continue our growth of the championship whilst improving it for existing riders, especially as we look to lead the way as the most professional youth series in Europe.

about rhl activities. RHL Activities Ltd is synonymous with organising & promoting off road events and is recognised as one of the major companies within the industry to not only lead the sport, but raise the profile of the sport, from its traditional grass roots of muddy fields to high profile sporting and trading events, both indoor and outdoor. In 2008 RHL was rewarded for what was referred to by the press and public alike as the best British Grand Prix for a decade, with official recognition at the annual FIM awards presentation in Monaco. Gareth Hockey is the man behind the RHL team, it is his drive and focus that spearheads the team, pushing and developing not only the company, but also encouraging the development and growth of the team and its individuals. RHL Activities are the promoters of the British Youth National Championship since 2012. Where over this period we have seen the championship grow year on year. When RHL took the championship over they started with very few riders to now having 200 plus rider competing in the Official ACU British Youth Championship. The championship see’s the best youth motocross riders throughout the UK battle it out for the British Championship titles across six
rounds at the countries best tracks. The championship is the stepping-stone for youth riders to get into the British Championship and the World Championships. The company also runs the world famous HydroGarden Weston Beach Race which has been in existence for over 35 years. The event is recognised as the biggest, maddest and baddest off road event on the UK calendar. The event is RHL’s version of the London Marathon with amateurs and professional riders competing together, over two days, with race classes ranging, from the youngest riders of 7 years old to the oldest rider in 2016 of 73, competing on both two and four wheels. The event attracts up to 1500 riders and tens of thousands of spectators, which take over the seaside town of Weston Super Mare. The latest event to the company portfolio is the St Blazey Premier MX, which for some use to be the Remedies Bar championship in the South West of the country. The St Blazey Premier MX is the premier motocross championship for the South West of the UK and uses some of the best circuits in the area across eight rounds throughout the year.

VISION behind the byn. The British Motocross Festival is the brainchild of RHL Activities’ Gareth Hockey, who has been working closely with the ACU to create a special weekend event that brings together the senior and junior British Motocross Championships. While Hockey believes the Judd KTM British Youth National riders deserve their own championship, the British Motocross Festival joins together the junior series and the Maxxis British Motocross Championship in one bumper weekend for one round to help showcase the young riders and let the industry people see that there is a very strong future in the sport. This is the thinking behind the exciting new event. “We’ve had a good response from teams and the manufacturers. We feel it will be a good education process that will hopefully inspire the juniors to be part of the pro teams in the future. We’ve got some great riders, we want to help steer them in the right direction,” said Hockey. RHL would, in the long-term, like to see the festival possibility utilised on more bank holidays in the year, and perhaps the schedules merged with juniors and seniors racing both days. This would not only give the spectators value for money, and encourage people to see just how good the junior racing is, but also to allow juniors to race on the same tracks as their more experienced peers. The opportunity for juniors to race the same weekend as World Championship level riders is very special. The likes of Tommy Searle competed in the junior ranks in the past, so this race weekend easily allows the
11
pro riders to give something back at the grass roots of the sport, and juniors the chance to ask questions when they’re watching the pros. RHL feels that many young riders just don’t see the pros in action other than on a screen, because they’re often competing or practicing themselves. “We’ve got some great people in the paddock like Dave Thorpe and Jamie Dobb (both former world champions), and I think we’d all want to try and help find the next British world champion by giving them the support they need. This format really works for that and brings together everyone who can make those steps happen. But the weekend isn’t just geared for the racing side,” commented Hockey. “As most people who have seen how we operate will know, we want to create great events. We want to encourage people who have a little interest in motorsport to try dirtbikes in whatever form, as this is the easiest way to get involved. We’re going to people outside of the sport, and local schools to try and give the families the opportunity to come to our events, so the parents can see for themselves how family orientated our sport is. It’s important for the industry to encourage families through the door so we can grow it further,” said Hockey. With RHL’s experience in events such as the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race, which annually attracts over 70,000 visitors, the inaugural British Motocross Festival is a starting point to develop into something more. Culham is a special track and one Gareth was keen to be involved with for the British Motocross Festival in which we will see the opening rounds of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship and the Judd KTM British Youth National series in one special weekend, plus the St Blazey Premier MX that will take place on Monday. “Culham is a good track with a lot of history; it’s nice to get to and I’ve been involved with there with the likes or Mark Hucklebridge in the past. If the sun shines it’s one of the nicest places to be. It’s the start of something; from our point of view our desire is for this to go ahead in the future with more festivals. This isn’t just down to us though, so let’s hope it’s a success.”

Dunlop is a valued supporter of the Judd KTM British Youth National Championship and the tyre manufacturer is pleased to be involved with the premier junior series where youngsters cut their teeth as they progress through the ranks to the Maxxis, European and World Championships. ROUND ONE – PRESTON DOCKS Preston Docks is filled with deep loamy berms, Rhythm sections, table tops and split sections. Dunlop Geomax MX12 front and rear in the winter months, opting for the MX3S 80/100-21 Front as the weather improves. The track will become to hard for the MX12 front as the track base starts to harden up. TYRE FITTING AND RUNNING TIPS: • Use correct fitting lubricant when fitting tyres, No washing up liquids • Depending upon the terrain on the day, then opt for a tyre with a pitch pattern to suit the terrain, and or work with inflation pressures for a finer advantage.

I RIDE TO WIN.
Champions demand superb performance and Geomax tyres deliver. In the last MXGP season we helped riders secure several overall GP wins on the toughest terrain. No wonder top riders choose Dunlop tyres again and again.
