introduction.
Welcome to Duns for round four of the 2018 Judd KTM British Youth National Championship Powered by Parts Europe and the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship. It’s an exciting weekend for everyone at RHL Activities and we look forward to seeing some great racing north of the border here in Scotland. With the second half of the series now all guns blazing, there are no clear winners in the championships, so there is still a lot to play for with this weekend at Duns along with the two final rounds at Sherwood and Weston left on the calendar. Last month both British Championships hit the halfway mark for 2018 at Fraddon Moto Parc in Cornwall. Round three at Fraddon provided some show-stopping racing action throughout the weekend where Hayden Statt, Ashton Boughen, Bailey Johnston, Alfie Jones, Ike Carter, Aaron-Lee Hanson and James Mackrel took the overall victories in each of their respective classes. However, the series moves on and we are back once again at the spectacular Duns circuit in Scotland. This premier track, at which we saw some great racing last year, has a rich history and has been developed under the expert guidance of Bryan Mackenzie. The venue, which sits in the picturesque Lammermuir hills, is renowned in the motocross community as being one of the best tracks in the country and has hosted many national events including the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship in the past. Part of our priority here at RHL Activities is to grow our sport, bring more junior riders into the championship and give our riders the very best platform to develop for the future. Bringing riders to venues that are raced on by their professional counterparts is good for their development and continues with that learning process we are so passionate about. Duns is a great example of this effort and it will be good to see who has made a further step here for this weekend. I hope you all have a great round four; enjoy the racing, scenery, the haggis and whatever else Scotland has on offer for you!

INTERVIEW: TOMMY LEE MORRIS.
Catch up with Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship rider Tommy Lee Morris The Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship reached its halfway point of the 2018 season earlier this month at Fraddon Moto Parc in Cornwall. The Championship has had a great season so far with some bar-banging racing throughout the entire field. Elderfield Motorcycles rider Tommy Lee Morris has made his debut year in the British Championship scene and has had a great start to the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship where he currently sits within the top 10 after the first three rounds. We caught up with Tommy to see how his season has gone so far and his approach to the rest of his first season in the British Championship category. RHL: Tommy, we are now halfway through the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship; how has the first half of the year gone for you? Tommy: “The first half of the year has gone pretty good
for me. I have been making progress every time I ride and I am slowly getting up to speed.” RHL: You’re currently in eighth position is the Championship; how do you feel and what’s your goal for the end of this year? Tommy: “It feels pretty good to be running inside the top 10 of a British Championship. It’s all great experience for me, as I have only been riding for a short period of time. Looking to the end of the year, my goal is to finish in the top six.” RHL: Thinking about the Fraddon race, how was the weekend and what were your thoughts on the track? Tommy: “I thought Fraddon was a great track. It had a good layout and some cool jumps. I feel like I did not ride how I know I can at Fraddon - I just couldn’t put it together - but I still had some good racing throughout the weekend.” RHL: Duns is the next round in Scotland next month. Have you raced there before? What are your thoughts on the track? Tommy: “I haven’t raced at Duns before, however I have been looking at a few videos of the track online and it looks pretty cool. Like every weekend, I’m looking to be strong throughout the event.” RHL: Are you doing any training or practicing in preparation for Round 4? Tommy: “I am just doing what I normally do for training. I will be riding a few hard pack tracks to try and get a feeling for what Duns may be like. My training consists of a lot of CrossFit training, rowing and cycling. RHL: Do you have any plans yet for the 2019 season and what will you be doing over the off-season? Tommy: “At the moment I am not sure what we are racing next year, but hopefully I will continue my career in the British Under 21 Championship. During the off-season my plans are to just train and ride as much as I can and stay injury free for the 2019 season.”

RACE REPORT: ROUND 3 FRADDON. The Judd KTM British Youth National Championship Powered by Parts Europe and the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship concludes an exciting weekend of racing in Fraddon, Cornwall (June nine and 10) for round three of each Championship, which have hit the season halfway point. Hayden Statt, Ashton Boughen, Bailey Johnston, Alfie Jones, Ike Carter, AaronLee Hanson and James Mackrel took overall victory in each of their respective classes. In the Auto category, the close battles provided us with great entertainment, as Hayden Statt took home the overall with an impressive 177 points. Judd Orange Brigade’s Archie Britton finished in second with Alfie Herron in third. Robbie Daly, Finley Pickering and Jake Webb rounded out the top six. In the Junior 65cc class Ashton Boughen finished up with the overall thanks to his three wins from four starts over the weekend. Judd Orange Brigade rider Billy Askew was second on the podium and McKenzie Marshall in third. 1stCall Travel rider Shaun Mahoney finished up in fourth with Kalvin Kelly, who won his opening moto of the event, in fifth and Will Haddock in sixth. In the Small Wheel 85cc class we saw some superb racing, especially between Bailey Johnston, Wal Beaney and Ollie Colmer. Johnston took the overall win with two
11
moto victories, whilst Colmer took the runner-up spot with a consistently strong weekend. Wal Beaney ended the weekend in third, with Tyla Hooley, Ben Mustoe and Reece Ross clinching the remaining top six podium finishes. The Big Wheel 85cc had a weekend of tremendous competition with lots of high-action passing and racing throughout the event. While points were close at the finish-line of the final moto, it was Alfie Jones taking the top step of the podium, with Charlie Heyman in second and Judd Orange Brigade rider Jack Grayshon just one point behind in third. Ethan Lane, Sam Atkinson and Buster Hart took fourth to sixth places. Ike Carter walked away with the victory in the 125cc class after some strong battles with his competitors, especially Max Ingham, who went on to take the runnerup position. Drew Anderson was third, while Kyle McNicol, Preston Williams and Sam Nunn concluded the top six. It was another battle-frenzy in the Open class where Judd Orange Brigade’s Aaron-Lee Hanson walked away with the victory after taking three out of the four wins. Finishing in second was George Simmutch and Harry Kimber took third. Fourth to sixth positions overall were Josh Greedy, Thomas Andrew and Thomas Townrow. The Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship class provided some fantastic racing this weekend. Taking all four moto wins in dominant style was HCR Racing Yamaha team rider James Mackrel. SR75 Suzuki rider Howard Wainwright finished up in second and with a four-point advantage over third-placed Rossi Beard. DSC Cornwall Kawasaki rider Jake Curtis-Stevens was fourth, while Oliver Benton and Joe Cadwallader finished fifth and sixth.

BAILEY JOHNSTON LOOKING TO TAKE THE BRITISH SMALL WHEEL 85CC TITLE IN 2018. Judd Orange Brigade’s Bailey Johnston is on a mission to take the 2018 Judd KTM British Youth National Powered By Parts Europe Small Wheel 85cc title. Johnston is currently leading the Championship with 516 points and a 17-point advantage over the 2017 65cc British Champion Wal Beaney. Johnston was chosen this year to race against some of Britain’s best riders for the newly formed Judd Orange Brigade team. The team was formed for 2018 as an initiative for KTM and Judd to help develop young talent in the UK and the British Youth National series. Looking to this weekend at Duns, Johnston is looking to maintain his Championship lead. RHL caught up with the young-gun to find out how his season has gone so far and how things are going within the Judd Orange Brigade team. RHL: Bailey, the Judd KTM British Youth National Championship Powered by Parts Europe has reached the halfway point earlier this month in Fraddon. How has the season been for you so far? Bailey Johnston: “So far the championship has been great. I’ve had some amazing battles and some awesome wins. So far I’ve won all of the rounds, which feels great and also leaves me in a good position for the next three rounds with a 17 point lead.” RHL: You’re currently leading the official ACU British Small Wheel 85cc Championship. How does it feel to be holding the top spot? Bailey Johnston: “To be holding the top spot place makes me overwhelmed and also takes a lot of pressure off me, because I’m up front and adding to my lead every round.” RHL: For the next round we head to Duns, Scotland. The track provided some outstanding racing in 2017 and you finished up in seventh. What are you plans and goals for the weekend? Bailey Johnston: “Yes, last time I enjoyed the track a lot and this time I will be hoping to add to my lead and staying out front.”
13
RHL: This year you are racing for the Judd Orange Brigade, how are things with the team and are you enjoying being a part of the KTM official factory youth team? Bailey Johnston: “I enjoy being on the team very much, everybody is very supportive and helps me out as much as possible. It made me very proud to be asked to join the Judd Orange Brigade - this has helped with my confidence, which I personally think has made me a better rider this season.” RHL: What are your thoughts on the Duns circuit? Bailey Johnston: “I find the Duns circuit good. It suits me well because it’s nice and fast with quite a lot of jumps, which in my opinion are my strongest points.” RHL: Finally, what are your plans for the rest of the season and ultimate goal for the year? Bailey Johnston: “My plans are to continue this lead and carry on to win the championship. I’ve worked so hard this year to get this far, so I hope I can carry this on and bring that number one plate back.”
