introduction.
Welcome to Sherwood for round five of the 2018 Judd KTM British Youth National Championship Powered by Parts Europe and the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship. It’s an exciting weekend for everyone at RHL Activities and we look forward to seeing some great racing at Sherwood. With only two rounds to go the British Championships are certainly heating up as we head to Sherwood this weekend for the penultimate round of the year, before the Championships move into Weston-super-Mare for the season finale where for the first ever a British Championship round has been held on a beach. Sherwood is a new track for us this weekend but is renowned as one of the best circuits in the area. The track has held many club and national events throughout the years however this weekend will see the circuit hold its first British Championship. Part of our priority here at RHL Activities is to grow our sport, bring more junior riders into the championship and give our riders the very best platform to develop for the future. Bringing riders to venues that are raced on by their professional counterparts is good for their development and continues with that learning process we are so passionate about. Sherwood is a great example of this effort and it will be good to see who has made a further step here for this weekend. I hope you all have a great round five and enjoy the racing!

RIDER QUOTES. ASHTON BOUGHEN JUDD KTM BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL 65CC CHAMPIONSHIP “It’s really exciting to be in the lead with 59 points, which takes a lot of pressure off me. Especially after my bad race that I had at Duns where I ended up scoring last place points in the second race due to a stone getting caught in my chain and pushing the chain off. I have never raced at Sherwood before but I have practiced there once and like the track. I hope to come away from the weekend with a bigger points lead and stay in top position.”
JAMES MACKREL STEVE BENTON TRANSPORT BRITISH UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP
“Being second in the Championship with only six points is not too bad. I’m happy with the progress we are making. Going to Sherwood it’s going to be close racing but hope to keep up the good form we have had lately. I want to keep building ready for the next round but also Weston for the final which will be a good race on the beach.”
PRESTON WILLIAMS JUDD KTM BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL 125CC CHAMPIONSHIP “Competing out in Australia for the FIM Junior World Motocross Championship was a great experience for me and grateful to have been chosen to represent my country. Looking to Sherwood this weekend I think it’s an awesome track and looking forward to getting on the start line and trying as hard as I can.”
ROSSI BEARD STEVE BENTON TRANSPORT BRITISH UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP
“I am happy to be leading the Championship going into the last two rounds. I struggled at Duns with a hand injury but hoping to make the Championship lead bigger at Sherwood and then Weston on the beach.”

RACE REPORT: ROUND 04: DUNS. The Judd KTM British Youth National Championship Powered by Parts Europe and Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship enjoyed a sunny weekend in Scotland (July 14 & 15) at the Duns circuit for round four of each series. Hayden Statt, McKenzie Marshall, Sam Atkinson, Aaron-Lee Hanson and James Mackrel took the overall wins in their respective classes. In the Auto category, close battles ensued throughout the weekend right the way through the field. Hayden Statt dominated the class by taking all four moto wins and the SCOTT Sports MotoKing Holeshot award in moto two on Saturday. Taking second position was Joel WinstanleyDawson and Lucas Lee clinched third. Rounding out the top six were Judd Orange Brigade’s Archie Britton, Alfie Herron and Robbie Daly. In the 65cc class we saw some outstanding racing from one of our youngster riders in the British Championship. McKenzie Marshal clinched the overall honours for the weekend after battling hard with the top contenders in the class. 1stCall Travel rider Shaun Mahoney walked away with second position, with Ryan Waggott in third. Kalvin Kelly, Will Haddock and Ashton Boughen finished in fourth to sixth places. In the Big Wheel 85cc class Sam Atkinson walked away from Duns with the overall after some very close racing with the top runners in the category. Atkinson managed to take the win by just one point ahead of second placed rider Alfie Jones, in what was an important weekend for
11
those battling at the top of the standings. Judd Orange Brigade’s Jack Grayshon finished the weekend in third, just one point shy of Jones, as the series really tightened up at the top going into the final two rounds. Buster Hart, who took the first moto win on Saturday with celebrations after the finish line, was fourth, while Ethan Lane finished in fifth with Niall Cregan in sixth. In the British Open class, Judd Orange Brigade’s Aaron-Lee Hanson dominated the class taking all four race wins as well as the SCOTT Sports MotoKing Holeshot in the second moto on the first day. Ryan Thomson and Owen Hendry ended the weekend in second and third places following some exciting racing. Ewan Kermack, Alex Hudziak and Josh Greedy rounded out the top six positions in the class. The British Under 21 Class saw some bar banging racing action throughout the weekend with HRC Yamaha rider James Mackrel taking the overall victory thanks to his three out of four moto wins. Rossi Beard, who is also fighting hard for the title, ended up with the second-place trophy with his moto win in race three on Sunday. Oliver Benton and Tommy Lee Morris finished the weekend in third and fourth places. Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL Activities commented, “Duns provided some outstanding racing and battles for our junior stars and under 21 riders in Scotland. The championships are starting to get close now with just two rounds to go, but there is still time before the end of the season and as we all know, a lot can happen in racing. I hope that all of the riders had an enjoyable weekend at this superb venue and I look forward to taking the championships to Sherwood at the end of September for the penultimate round.”

ROUND FIVE – SHERWOOD TSome sand and a little stoney in places, MX3S rear will deal with this terrain. But if dry track conditions continue to dry out you might what to change to the MX52 80/100-21 front tyre. TYRE FITTING AND RUNNING TIPS: • Use correct fitting lubricant when fitting tyres, No washing up liquids • Depending upon the terrain on the day, then opt for a tyre with a pitch pattern to suit the terrain, and or work with inflation pressures for a finer advantage. • Dunlop Mousses are equivalent to 12-13 PSI.
