Welcome to Landrake for the fifth round of the Thor British Youth National Championship here in Cornwall. It’s the first time that the series has been at Landrake, and we’re really looking forward to this weekend’s action. I am pleased that once again we are providing a new track for the elite youth motocross riders in the country, which promises to provide rider, families and people of Cornwall some outstanding racing on a highquality circuit. The championship titles can still be won or lost, and the competition is certainly heating up here at the penultimate round of the series. Of course our eyes are on our current Championship leaders, Wal Beaney, Vinnie Guthrie, Dominic Lancett, Rossi Beard and Howard Wainwright, but as we also know in racing anything can happen. In addition, it’s great to see the progress made by other riders in the series, and those that we can see will hopefully battling for the top spots next season. Landrake Moto Parc was founded in 1995 and is set in 25 acres of beautiful Cornish countryside, with the track covering approximately half of the site, while the rest provides a paddock area and spectator parking. Whilst the track is fast and flowing, it’s a very technical track, with some old school features such as adverse cambers and natural terrain, combined with a selection of man-made jumps, along with a rhythm section to add to the excitement for riders and spectators alike. Landrake has been used for Maxxis British Motocross Championship rounds and has been raced by many top riders over the years such as three-time World Champion Dave Thorpe and many World Championship Grand Prix stars including the likes of Brad Anderson, Elliott Banks Browne, Steven Clarke, Tommy Searle, Billy Mackenzie, Ken De-Dycker, Zac Osborne and Josh Coppins. Our intention is that the list of ‘stars’ that have raced here will in future include riders that are currently competing in the Thor British Youth National series. I am confident that with industry support, the talent we are seeing in our championship, and the platform we provide to develop young talent will guarantee this as a reality. BATTLING FOR 65CC GLORY IN THE THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP With the 2017 Thor British Youth National Championship coming to a close for this year within the next couple of weeks, we caught up with current 65cc British Championship leader Wal Beaney as we head to the final rounds at Landrake & Pontrilas.

Wal is currently leading the Junior 65cc British Championship with a 75 point lead ahead of Ollie Colmer and has won 13 out of 20 races this season so far. Wal recently made the trip over to Estonia to represent Team GB at the 2017 World Junior Motocross World Championship, where we saw the 65cc young-gun clinch seventh overall against the best juniors on the planet.

What has been your favourite track you have been to this year with the championship?

Round 4 saw you walk away with the overall for the weekend. How do you feel after Duns? “Round 4 went well for me; I felt very good and enjoyed the track. Overall I was happy with my results.” How do you feel this year has gone for you? What have you enjoyed the most about the championship? “This has been the best season so far for me and I’ve really enjoyed it, which is the main thing. I’m feeling really

The track flowed well and I loved the jumps at the track as I do love to jump.” You’re currently leading the British 65cc Class Championship, how does it feel? “It feels great to be leading the British 65cc Championship. I give every round a 110% and try to be consistent. I am pleased to be a part of the SJP moto team and they have been a big part of my season. I have enjoyed competing with Ollie Colmer at each event as well.” Landrake is the next stop of the Championship for the very first time, how you feeling for the event and have you done any training or practicing prior to the next round? 6

“I am looking forward to Landrake, I’ve raced there before so I know what to expect. In preparation to Landrake I have been racing hardpack tracks and doing a bit of physical training to keep myself fit and ready.” Why do you enjoy racing the Thor British Youth Nationals? “I enjoy racing in the British Youth Nationals because it’s the best national championship in the country for youth riders. The RHL team run it well and there has been lots of good tracks to race at this year.” Lastly the most important question how did you get into motocross? “My dad brought me a quad when I was 3-4 years old and within 10 minutes I was doing doughnuts around the field. He took me to tracks and it all started from there really. BATTLE OF DUNS THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACERS IN THE HEAT OF THE BATTLE AT DUNS The Thor British Youth National Championship headed over the border to the hardpack track at Duns in Scotland on June 24 25, for round four of the series, where Wal Beaney, Vinnie Guthrie, Dominic Lancett, Rossi Beard and Jed Etchells enjoyed the overall honours as the championship challenges really hot up. In the junior 65cc class Wal Beaney and Ollie Colmer provided another weekend of outstanding racing at Duns, the newest venue to the British Youth National Championship calendar, which has previously held an array of major off-road events and is now managed by former British Motocross Championship star Bryan Mackenzie. After a dominant first day, championship leader Beaney looked to be on the way to taking the top spot for the Duns round with three out of three wins, however Ollie Colmer put on a fine performance on day two to secure the final two wins of the weekend. Beaney’s consistency gave him the overall with Colmer second and Finley Evans in third. Keelan Hope and Fin Wilson rounded out the top five. In the Small Wheel 85cc class we saw some great battles between Vinnie Guthrie, Alfie Jones and Charlie Heyman, who returned to racing following an injury earlier in the year. After some superb on-track action, Guthrie took the overall with Jones

second,and Heyman third. Oliver Barr was fourth while Raife Broadley took fifth overall. With just 14 points separating Guthrie and Jones in the championship, the final two rounds are certainly expected to be exciting for these two juniors. In the Big Wheel 85cc class Dominic Lancett had it pinned throughout all motos and in impressive style took all five chequered flags, further extending his championship lead to 124 points. It was a great spectacle of hard fought fights up and down the rest of the field throughout the five motos, especially between Kyle McNicol, James Smith and Bobby Bruce who took second, third and fourth positions. In the 125cc class Rossi Beard continued his assault on the championship with four out of five wins, although Callum Mitchell, who won moto two of the weekend, and Ryan Allison certainly put up a strong fight for second and third overall. Drew Anderson was fourth and Ike Carter took fifth position. Beard is 125 points clear of Anderson in the championship with an impressive 15 wins from 20 starts this season. In the open class it was a close one between the top three of Jed Etchells, Howard Wainwright and Tom Grimshaw who enjoyed some bar-to-bar battles throughout all of the five motos. Etchells looked to enjoy the hardpack circuit at the weekend as he took moto one, four and five wins from

current championship leader Wainwright, who won races two and three. Wainwright leads the championship by 35 points over Grimshaw, while Etchells sits 42 points from the top of the field going into the penultimate round of the series. Jed Etchells commented: “I really enjoyed Duns for the BYN because the track got quite technical. Saturday started of well for me, as I finished first in qualifying and I finished first in race one. Unfortunately in race two my rear sprocket lost 20 back teeth from they chain going slack, making the power slower, but luckily it managed to stay on so I could finish third. In the third race I had a bad start, but was able to fight back through the pack to second. On the Sunday the track was ripped up and watered, so it very soon got very rough and technical, which suits me best. In race four I got third off the gate, but was able to gain first place early on. For race five I had the worst start of the weekend, but I was determined to get to the front. I was able to get in the lead after a few laps and have a comfortable lead for the win. Overall I felt the weekend went very well for me and I loved the track, especially on Sunday in the rough. I have gained some good points on Howard and Tom and I cant wait for Landrake.” The Apico Factory Racing Holeshot awards were presented to Finley Evans, Vinnie Guthrie, Jack Galvin, Ryan Allison and Tom Grimshaw.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONDUCT Due to isolated past problems at Landrake with riders and parents going to the local village and pub and causing problems, Landrake have asked us to inform riders and families that any issues involving them can result in the meeting being cancelled and/or their rider being removed from the circuit. Issues such as noisy or threatening behaviour and littering either in the village, to and from the venue or in the pub will not be tolerated as well. All pushbikes are to be kept within the venue at all times and all children must have a responsible adult with them when leaving the venue throughout the weekend, with the adult taking full responsibility of the actions of the children. DOGS Dogs are allowed on site but please keep them on leads at all times LITTER Facilities will be in place, please use. The paddock/pit/ track areas are all clean before you enter the site so we expect these areas to look the same when you leave. CAMPING No one will be admitted to the site before midday on the Friday before the event. If track grading/watering is in progress no one will be allowed to access the circuit for event safety reasons. No digging holes in the pit/paddock area to level up campers or caravans. No ground BBQâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s or ground fires

CHILDREN Could you all please notify your guests, invitees, competitors, participants and spectators that all minors should be under supervision of a parent or responsible adult at all times. There is continual vehicle movement throughout the site NO RIDING IN THE PITS Riders are to dismount at the exit of the track. Any rider caught riding through the paddock will be asked to leave the site FENCING Please do not climb on or over any of the fencing in and around the site PIT BIKES NO Pit bikes or electric bikes INCLUDING OSETâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s GENERATORS All generators must be off by 11pm and not put on again until 7am in the morning WASHING OF BIKES No washing of bikes are allowed by vans parking next to any tarmac road. If you want to wash bikes, then you must park your vehicle away from the roads and wash bikes on the other side of the van away from the roads. Please ensure that any run-off water is also kept on the grass and is not going to run down the roads. SKIP No tyres to be placed in the skip

RHL Activities is pleased to offer all our registered riders competing in the Thor British Youth National Championship big discounts at the 2017 HydroGarden Weston Beach Race on October 13 – 15. Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL is welcoming all riders the chance to camp in his exclusive camping area on the WestonSuper-Mare seafront within the main site at the 2017 event for three people per camper at a cost of £95.00 (Excluding tickets) for the event weekend instead of the cost of £160.00, which is a saving of £65.00. Please note there are very

limited spaces so book early to avoid disappointment. Riders wishing to enter into one of the classes for the UK’s biggest and maddest off-road events can also enjoy the special BYN offer of a £30 reduction for their entry fee as well. Riders will be placed in the exclusive front row reserved for Thor British Youth National competitors, as they will be the first riders onto the beach and will be required to have their official number boards fixed to their machines for the event. In addition, for those riders only wishing to attend the event as a spectator, there is

also a special offer to buy adult weekend tickets and get a child weekend ticket free for BYN riders.
