Welcome to the final round of the 2017 Thor British Youth Nationals here at Pontrilas, Hereford. It’s a time to reflect on what has to have been one of the best years we have had at the Thor British Youth National Championship. I must say it has been an honour to see the best youth riders in the country compete for their respective championship titles, and I look forward to seeing our champions crowned this weekend. I would like to thank every single one of you, parents, sponsors and my team at RHL for their commitment and support this year. We have seen some action-packed racing across all rounds at some of the country’s best tracks. While the champions of each class may seem to be the focus this weekend, I am also very proud of the developments many of our riders have made throughout the course of this season - we look forward to seeing them continue to flourish and grow next year. For a couple of our riders this is their final year in the Thor British Youth Nationals as they make the step up into the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship or head to the European Championships next season. It has been a pleasure to see you compete and gain the experience you need for the next step in your motocross careers, and I believe our series has given you a great foundation in preparation for this. With the highlight motocross event of the calendar coming up in a few weeks, the Motocross of Nations and the closure of the MXGP season, it’s a sure motivation for all of us to ensure future start lists include the names of riders we are currently seeing at the BYN. It is this motivation that drives us to provide the best platform possible for British youth riders, and we are busy at RHL HQ preparing for next year. We look forward to the coming weeks where we will announce our plans for 2018. Finally, I would like to wish everyone good luck for this weekend, and congratulate those who end up being the 2017 Thor British Youth National Champions. I hope you all have a great weekend here at Pontrilas and I look forward to seeing you all in 2018.

THE PENULTIMATE BATTLE CLOSE BATTLES AT THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL PENULTIMATE ROUND The Thor British Youth National Championship penultimate round held on August 19 and 20 at Landrake Moto Parc in Saltash, Cornwall was an outstanding weekend of racing where Wal Beaney, Vinnie Guthrie, Dominic Lancett, Rossi Beard and Tom Grimshaw secured the overall victories. In the junior 65cc class there was no stopping the championship leader going into the event, Wal Beaney, from taking the overall for the weekend with his three out of the four available race wins. Ben Mustoe put on a fine performance throughout the weekend with some close battles with Wal Beaney. Beaney’s consistency gave him the overall with Mustoe second and Tyla Hooley in third. Ollie Colmer and Finley Evans rounded out the top five. Beaney goes into the final round of the series 105 points ahead of Colmer. In the Small Wheel 85cc class Vinnie Guthrie and Charlie Heyman produced some outstanding battles, with Guthrie taking the moto one and four wins and Heyman taking second and third. With some superb racing on track Guthrie took the overall with Heyman in second. Raife Broadley took third with Alfie Calvert and Arai Elcock taking fourth and fifth spots. Guthrie and Broadley head into the final round 91 points apart at the top of the standings.

In the Big Wheel 85cc class once again Dominic Lancett dominated the weekend with four out of five race wins to take the overall for round five. Sunday brought some tough conditions for these youngguns, but they didn’t disappoint, with some great racing from the 85cc warriors. Bobby Bruce and Kyle McNicol enjoyed some close battles throughout all motos, however Bruce took second overall and McNicol rounded out the podium in third. Cullen Scott finished the weekend in fourth and local rider Louie Kessell took fifth. Lancett now has a healthy lead of 146 points over Bruce, who is just three points ahead of McNicol in the series’ standings. In the 125cc class Rossi Beard continued his fight for the Championship title with four out of five race wins, although Aaron Colley took the moto four victory with some tremendous racing between the top riders. Ryan Allison took second overall for the weekend, with Max Ingham in third. Callum Mitchell and Drew Anderson finished with fourth and fifth spots for the weekend. Beard now has an impressive 152-point lead heading into the final round at Pontrilas in two weeks’ time. In the open class it was a close one between the top three of Tom Grimshaw,

Jed Etchells and Howard Wainwright who enjoyed some great racing throughout all of the five motos. Grimshaw was dominant during the first day at Landrake taking all three moto wins. Etchells concluded the weekend in second; Wainwright took the podium third spot despite his very best efforts, but retains the series lead by just 18 points heading into the final round. Ben Clark and Harry Kimber rounded out the top five. Gareth Hockey, RHL Activities Director commented, “It was our first time at Landrake Moto Parc for the Thor British Youth National Championship and I was very pleased with the facility and the standard of racing from all riders. With only one round to go the championships are definitely at boiling point. There’s still a lot to play for in each class, not just for the titles, but for every rider looking to improve or retain their current positions in their respective championship standings. We’re really looking forward to the final round in Pontrilas in a couple of weeks’ time where we can expect a great finale to the 2017 series.” The Apico Factory Racing Holeshot awards were presented to Wal Beaney, Charlie Heyman, Travis Steels, Thomas Andrews and Aiden Williams.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION DOGS Dogs are allowed on site but please keep them on leads at all times LITTER Facilities will be in place, please use. The paddock/pit/track areas are all clean before you enter the site so we expect these areas to look the same when you leave. NO RIDING IN THE PITS Riders are to dismount at the exit of the track. Any rider caught riding through the paddock will be asked to leave the site FENCING Please do not climb on or over any of the fencing in and around the site

CHILDREN Could you all please notify your guests, invitees, competitors, participants and spectators that all minors should be under supervision of a parent or responsible adult at all times. There is continual vehicle movement throughout the site CAMPING No one will be admitted to the site before midday on the Friday before the event. If track grading/watering is in progress no one will be allowed to access the circuit for event safety reasons. No digging holes in the pit/paddock area to level up campers or caravans. APICO HOLESHOT AWARDS The Apico Holeshot awards will be done on the second race on Saturday. Winners of the Apico Holeshots will be announced over the PA system on Saturday Afternoon and riders will be able to collect awards from the RHL Lorry on Sunday from 8am until 8.30am.

BIG SAVINGS FOR THOR BRITISH YOUTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTERED RIDERS FOR THE 2017 HYDROGARDEN WESTON BEACH RACE! RHL Activities is pleased to offer all our registered riders competing in the Thor British Youth National Championship big discounts at the 2017 HydroGarden Weston Beach Race on October 13 – 15. Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL is welcoming all riders the chance to camp in his exclusive camping area on the WestonSuper-Mare seafront within the main site at the 2017 event for three people per camper at a cost of £95.00 (Excluding tickets) for the event weekend instead of the cost of £160.00, which is a saving of £65.00. Please note there are very

limited spaces so book early to avoid disappointment. Riders wishing to enter into one of the classes for the UK’s biggest and maddest off-road events can also enjoy the special BYN offer of a £30 reduction for their entry fee as well. Riders will be placed in the exclusive front row reserved for Thor British Youth National competitors, as they will be the first riders onto the beach and will be required to have their official number boards fixed to their machines for the event.
