April 2019 Dear Applicant Welcome to Rhyddings Business & Enterprise School, which serves the East Lancashire old mill town of Oswaldtwistle and surrounding area. It has been at the heart of the community for over 85 years and enjoys good transport links via the M65 corridor and adjoining networks of M6 and M66. The school is in a period of transition, quite literally with a planned capital building programme. Uniquely, whilst this is taking place the school will be temporarily off-site for some of the summer and autumn terms of 2019 to allow for preparatory demolition work. In the meantime, the school continues to work hard to prepare the young people we serve and help them realise and reach their potential, providing them with the very best educational experiences. Pupils are well supported through our Pastoral House Continent system with vertical tutoring and Continent Leaders. This provides the support pupils need to perform well across the curriculum as well as healthy competition throughout the year. We have an active extra curricular programme and run a number of annual residential trips both here and abroad. Close links with the local Rotary Club provide access to bespoke programmes, community work and charitable activities. Large numbers of pupils complete their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Our curriculum areas are largely suited in a combination of specialist facility and traditional classroom space. Whilst we await the new build accommodation we currently have a number of temporary areas. We have a 3yr KS3 and 2yr KS4 from September 2019 offering Ebacc, should pupils choose to do so. Information for currently available posts: Food Technology Is in a two storey block comprising a large specialist food preparation room. Other specialist design and technology rooms are adjacent along with the art Department. These include a bespoke computer suite with adjoining
CAD/CAM room, traditional workshop and a shared textiles room with Art. There is a technician who supports the work of the department. The Head of Department is a Design Technology specialist so there will be some autonomy for the Food Preparation and Nutrition curriculum. Music Part of the Performing Arts area called ‘Evolve’ music has two specialist teaching rooms and is well resourced with electronic keyboards, PC computers, iMac, DJ decks, guitars, drum kits and traditional instruments. There is a thriving programme of school concerts and performances throughout the year. The Venue - our professional performance space equipped with fixed tiered seating, two sound desks and a multicore to a permanent full band set up so performances can take place any lesson/after school and for shows.
MFL Spanish is currently the single language taught across KS3 and offered as an option at KS4. We are keen to broaden provision and would like to offer French as an addition, initially in Year 7. This post is as a result of expanding the offer of languages within the curriculum. Art Art comprises two specialist teaching rooms within the design, technology and art block. There is also an additional textiles room, shared with technology. Both rooms are well equipped and resourced and Art continues to be a popular choice at KS4. History History occupies traditional classrooms within the original Rhyddings building and is located near to the other Humanity subjects of Geography and RE. Regular joint RE trips to the Battlefields and Holocaust Education Trust visits to Poland are a highlight of the work and popularity of the subject. This post is as a result of expanding the offer of History within the curriculum. I hope you find the information useful and welcome your application. Yours sincerely
