What’s Happening? As part of our partnering frameworks with Lancashire County Council, Walter Carefoot & Sons (Construction) Ltd. have been appointed as Principal Contractor to undertake structural repairs to refurbish the East and West teaching Blocks at Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School. In order to provide replacement teaching space whilst these works are ongoing, six temporary classrooms will be erected on the car park at the front of the School. We will start preparing the temporary foundations this week and expect the classrooms to be delivered to site in the next few weeks. Will I be Affected? As we will be carrying out the construction work within the boundary of the school, we will be strictly controlling our deliveries. We have located the entrance and site compound as to ensure no congestion is caused by waiting delivery wagons. All suppliers are instructed with each order and call off that all delivery vehicle should continue into the site compound and not block the school entrance, car park or service roads. There will be no deliveries or vehicle movements between 0815 – 0930hrs and 1500 -1600hrs during term time. Our site working hours will be 7.30am to 4.30pm. As the project progresses it may be necessary to carry out some of the works on Saturdays between 8am and 5pm. At all times Carefoot’s project team will ensure that there is no nuisance caused by our works, all of our tools and equipment have been selected with silencing equipment where this cannot be done sound proofing will be used. Flood lighting for construction purposes will only be used during the hours of site operation as stated above. We have also considered and taken steps to eliminate dust and mud from leaving the construction site.

Can I visit the site? Where can I find out more? As the project progresses we intend to hold several events with the school and invite local stakeholders and residents. We have created a special hashtag on Twitter too so that each time Carefoot, the school or stakeholders tweet using #carefootrhyddings this will appear on the specially created project webpage. As mentioned above we have created a special page on our website dedicated to this project, this will contain project information along with all the relevant contact details and pictures and progress updates as we go along; enter the address below to access the page. http://www.carefootplc.com/construction/current_projects/rhyddings

Health & Safety and Community Involvement Although the site is fenced, has camera surveillance and is secured at night, some children see a building site as a playground when the builders have finished work for the day. If you have children, please warn them of the dangers of playing on building sites. Our Health & Safety mascot Sammy SafeSite will be in local schools and communities promoting Health & Safety with children. We will also be promoting Careers in Construction within the school and working with the school to engage with students who are looking to pursue a career in Construction and Engineering.

Environmental Did you know that more than 95% of all the waste that we produce is recycled! All the skips that we use are taken to the waste handlers depot and sorted for recycling. The latest monthly figures released from our waste handlers show that more than 95% of our waste is being recycled. This means that very little of our waste goes to landfill and so helps the environment. We also work with our designers and supply chain to ensure that we are using sustainable products in the new building. We also measure our carbon emissions, we track every journey made to our site, calculate the emissions and look for ways to improve them. This can be achieved by using local suppliers and contractors wherever possible. Our target for using local suppliers and reinvesting into Lancashire on the Rhyddings School Project is 90%.
