Fruit flies are annoying. At certain times of the year, they seem to be especially pervasive, and are even attracted to citrus-based solvents! This is an incredibly efficient trap. A. J.B. Lee’s Corn Cutter and Creamer

J.B. Lee, a Texan, invented this corn cutter in 1939 and his patent was issued in 1941. Since then, some 4 million of them have been sold and continue to enjoy a good market today. With some simple blade adjustments to accommodate the size of kernel being cut, it can be used either to cut whole kernels from the cob or to cut creamed corn, a process that clips the tops off kernels and makes two vertical cuts through the rest of the kernel. A scraper blade then extracts the kernel contents and strips the juice from the cob at the same time, leaving the kernel jackets still attached to the cob. Since many people have never heard of freshly creamed corn, a number of recipes using it are included. Whether cutting whole kernels or creamed corn, the cutter is effective and efficient. Laser Measure The great value of this laser measure is that it gives you an almost instant measurement Laser beam is illustrative only. to any surface you can hit with a beam of light. More precise than using a measuring tape, it is effective over a much longer range*. Unlike a regular tape measure, you don’t have to worry about an end hook pulling free, struggling to make measurements while on a ladder, or guessing at an inside dimension by bending your tape into a corner. The measure performs addition and subtraction, calculates area and volume, and can even compute the distance between two points by triangulation, useful when you don’t have a direct line of sight. A stake-out function significantly speeds the layout of posts or piers; the measure lets you plot multiple positions at regular intervals, providing an audio signal when you are close to position. In continuous mode, it records the minimum and maximum distances to an opposite surface. The LCD screen displays metric (to 0.001m) and Imperial measurements (to 0.01И or 1/32Й), converts instantly between units, and has a backlight for use in low light conditions.

An internal memory keeps track of the last 20 readings. The measure comes with a nylon belt pouch, and two AA batteries good for approximately 10,000 readings; the laser and device automatically shut off to conserve battery power. Veritas® Set-Up Blocks А Setting up machines in the shop can be C a frustrating and inaccurate undertaking. Tape measures and rulers are difficult to use when measuring gaps between curved bits and guide fences.

B Worse, machines often require two hands to adjust, leaving nothing to hold the measuring tool. The Veritas set-up blocks help solve this problem. Simply place the appropriate block or combination of blocks between the fence and bit or blade and adjust accordingly.

Accurate to within 0.002Й, the 2Й long anodized aluminum blocks are available in a primary set of five, as well as A two expansion sets. The set of five 1 1 1 1 3 includes /16Й, /8Й, /4Й, /2Й and /4Й thick blocks, plus a steel 1-2-3 block (so named for its 1ЙК2ЙК3Й size), accurate to within 0.0002Й! Combined, they stack from 1/16Й to 411/16Й in 1/16Й increments.

As a supplement to the primary blocks, two expansion kits are available to simplify setting fine fractional measurements. The seven-piece expansion set includes 3/16Й, 5/16Й, 3/8Й, 7/16Й, 9/16Й, 5/8Й and 11/16Й sizes. Having the primary and seven-piece sets means you can work with the exact block size you need when working in 16ths up to 3/4Й; they can also reduce the number of blocks required when setting up larger combinations.
