THE SOUND OF CHANGE
experience
This is a film brought together by like-minded folk to blend surf, art & music together in one total experience. The Film takes you on a journey around the world from Australia’s east coast to Indonesia, Morocco, and the famous west coast point breaks of California. Overlay art filters were created in our studio & the original sound track was recorded in the Rhythm warehouse by Neal Purchase Jnr & the Brown Byrds plus Alex Wall from the Wax Witches. Welcome to The Sound Of Change Experience.
CHAPTER 1. ‘THIS IS RHYTHM’
Bringing together a unique group of artists, surfers and musicians whom all share a common interest of doing what they love. We spent a couple of days on the NSW North Coast doing what is inherently natural to us and at the very core of our brand’s foundations....likeminded folk self-expressing through surfing, impromptu music sessions and easy livin’ outside of the busy rat race.
CHAPTER 2. ‘THE CRAFTSMAN - NEAL PURCHASE JNR’
Rhythm co-founder and world-renowned innovative craftsman, Mr Neal Purchase Jr, demonstrates the art of surfboard shaping and riding waves on a craft made purely with your own two hands. Long has it been that the evolution of surfboard design has been progressed by surfers themselves.....those who have tried and tested design ideas and techniques to perfect their own unique definition of what feels good. Neal continues to sew the thread of tradition and the evolving interaction between man and water.
CHAPTER 3. ‘CLASSIC YOUTH - KAI ANNETTS & JORDAN SPEE’
Kai Annetts and Jordan Spee are two unique buddies who chose their own path of traditional surfing with a modern flare. Hatched into an amphibious life of salt water and sand, just a stones throw from the groomed perfection and hub of eclectic and alternative surfing, Noosa Heads, has given these kids the perfect environment to find themselves at the forefront of the youth ‘logging’ movement.
CHAPTER 4. ‘THE MELT’
Thirsts for uniqueness and incorporating creativity from the foundations of our brand, have led to our ‘Experiment’. Melting together a concoction of elements from liquid light shows, visual feedback loops and abstract overlays, manipulating them into a psychedelic light show reminiscent of 1970’s experimental rock ’n roll. Interlaced throughout surfing, music, creativity and adventure all at once to strap you in for a visual journey. Neal Purchase Jr and the Brown Byrds recorded the sound track live in our Rhythm studio with additional tracks from our friend Alex Wall.
CHAPTER 5. ‘TROPICAL TRIP’
The tropics have a gravitational pull for surfers worldwide. Scattered Islands shrouded in mystery, voodoo and entrenched in early surfing folklore. A chunk of reef around every bend offers up the perfect playground for a travelling surfer and solitude is far from beyond the realms of possibility. Asher Pacey, the connoisseur of twin finnery time-warped his way back to a twin-keeled era for an operation of isolation in the tropics.
CHAPTER 6. ‘AFRICAN VOYAGE’
A yearning for new frontiers off the well-worn path is the driving force of our thirst for discovery, inspiration and new experiences. When change is the only constant, better to embrace it and indulge in the unknown, to challenge ourselves and step outside of the regular. The arid coastline of northern Africa is rich in colour, culture, tradition, Atlantic corduroy swells and a way of life witnessed by our Portuguese comrade Diogo Appleton.
CHAPTER 7. ‘COSMIC CRAFTSMAN - RYAN LOVELACE’
Amongst the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, sloping into the North Pacific Ocean, lies a quasi-commune of artists, musicians and freethinking creatives providing shelter for none other than our cosmic craftsman pal Mr Ryan Lovelace. Taking up residence in a converted vintage Chevrolet bus, Ryan adopts a non-conformist approach to most things in life. This outlook has undoubtedly led to Ryan becoming one of the more progressive and revered surfboard craftsmen of the modern era.
CHAPTER 8. ‘ROLLING STONED’
The relationship between surfer and craftsman is a constant evolution. Having Ryan Lovelace and Asher Pacey take one shot at mutually crafting a surfboard, then testing the fruits of their labor on the famed points of Central California, was a project which couldn’t be surpassed. Ryan’s mad scientist techniques and Asher’s seamless flow on a wave were a perfect exhibition of a co-created asymmetrical twin fin.
CHAPTER 9. ‘THE COMEDOWN’
