I am Ria Sharma, an international student at University of Adelaide, completing a Masters in Architecture. I recently graduated from a Bachelor of Design degree (majoring in Architecture and minor in landscape architecture), from the University of Melbourne.
During my time at University of Adelaide, I participated in an architecture exchange program in Italy for a semester at Politecnico di Milano. It proved to be a transformative experience that ignited my passion for history, culture, and heritage. Immerse in Italy's rich architectural tapestry, every cobblestone seemed to whisper tales of the past. From the timeless beauty of historical landmarks to the vibrant pulse of everyday life, Italy became a living canvas that deepened my understanding of how architecture can encapsulate the essence of a society.
Architecture for me is an expression that impacts generations. Growing up in India, surrounded by a rich cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and a deep-rooted tradition of wellness, has instilled in me a profound desire to become an architect specializing in cultural and wellness spaces. The diverse and vibrant tapestry of India's cultural landscape, coupled with the country's architectural legacy, has inspired me to envision and create spaces that not only preserve our cultural identity but also promote holistic well-being I am driven to design spaces that harmonize with both the historical context and contemporary needs, fostering a sense of community and enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals and society.
I plan to use my skills and grow my experience, so that I can make a di erence in the architectural profession. I envision creating spaces that go beyond the physical, fostering. environments where individuals can connect, communicate, and thrive together. By prioritizing the human experience in my architectural endeavours, I aim to contribute to the development of communities that not only meet functional needs, but also inspire a genuine sense of connection and shared humanity.

THE ARRIVAL
The consultation room is the first point of arrival. This is where the psychoanalyst initiates in-depth form of talk therapy aimed at rooting out psychological problems rooted underneath a person’s conscious actions.
THE CAPTIVE
The patient, if diagnosed with Anorexia is directed towards the sleeping chamber that leads to the sleep cells.
Sleep plays a vital role in both emotional and physical health. The sleep inducing chamber houses indirect light therapy that makes the patients sleepy as they walk through it.

THE REFINE
Dream analysis is the investigation of repressed feelings that can be expressed in our dreams.
Psychoanalytic theory believes repressed feelings often manifest themselves in our dreams. Dream analysis helps uncover this unconscious material.
THE INSTRUCT
Psychoanalysis focuses on identifying and releasing unconscious, repressed feelings, thoughts, memories, and desires that are negatively impacting your life.
The goal is to make you aware of the root of psychological problems relating to food habits and help you resolve the issues to bring about positive change and healthier relationship with food.

THE DEPARTURE
The body after undergoing treatment is encouraged to spend time freely associating with others on the site –learning from their experiences.

Define core architectural technology terms and concepts
This project demonstrates my ability to identify, evaluate and engage with the technological underpinnings of architecture through technical Representation Drawing & Modelling. This project involved using and demonstrating independent and industry-focussed research techniques.
HOLLOW CORE SLABS AT McKINNON SECONDARY COLLEGE

Pre-stressed camber; span longer and lighter; screeding as leveling device: mesh as reinforce-ment: Screed/dowel rebars going into hollowcore and bond the planks and beam firmly.
PRE-STRESSING THE HOLLOW CORE
The tendons are tensioned to a predetermined load prior to casting the slabs. Prestressing allows the hollowcore slabs to overcome concrete's natural weakness in tension, facilitating longer spans between bearing points. The bond between the concrete and the prestressed tendons is crucial in the process.

A sanatorium design for life after COVID
A sanatorium design for life after COVID, using air as a tangible and valuable resource to Port Adelaide through architecture, along with emphasizing the importance of turning to nature, has been the project’s aim.
The way we live has been altered since the pandemic – the post-covid Marine and Harbour situated in an industrial site, needed to allow for the introduction of fresh air and light.
The newly coupled forms perform the function of filtering and distributing the air. The meditative, healing, and recreational zones in the building not only cater to the elderly but also the public who wish to practice wellness and mindfulness.
INTENSITY OF AIR POLLUTION
Emphasis on using cleaner production methods

SECTION 1
Air pollution investigations started

Certain obvious challenges were that the M &H was extremely dense to allow for this implementation of fresh air and light within the building, hence creating internal voids became a necessity.
As the COVID-19 pandemic spread exponentially across the globe, studies have already reported an increase in anxiety, and depression in the general population, especially with those facing extended lockdowns. These effects are magnified in the elderly population due largely to stricter lockdowns, higher risk of illness, and loss of social support.
The air flow is contained within three circular pillars; the filtering unit, the VAV – Variable Air Volume unit and the power plant unit.
They perform the function of filtering and distributing the air throughout the building. The VAV further helps manage the airflow in various building zones.
The plan of the ground floors shows how this topography enters within the building and forms small viewing platforms from within the building, to the outside. On this floor there is a combination of corridor spaces and open garden spaces.
CONSTRUCTION ANALYSIS
LAKE WENDOUREE HOUSE - JOHN WARDLE
This project explores the idea of construction as a process linking structural principles, materials and building techniques strategically. Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, is well known for its unique and diverse architectural styles that reflect its rich history and cultural influences. Through our design we want to re-introduce the element of the city of Lisbon back into our site. This can be done on the chosen site due to its appropriate location. The fact that the building site was unused and the area around it not very active, was why we wanted to work with this and transform it for the better.

Together with my team, I discovered the beautiful of the city of Lisbon.
The architectural richness of Lisbon lies in its ability to blend historical influences with modern designs, creating a diverse and visually captivating cityscape.
Following the devastating earthquake of 1755, Lisbon underwent significant reconstruction.

The city is built on seven hills, providing numerous viewpoints (miradouros), that offer stunning panoramic views of the cityscape and the Tagus River.
This unique topography contributes to the overall visual appeal of Lisbon.
In our design we wanted to capture the echoes of the hills within the site through the incorporation of a ramp.

GROUND LEVEL

Walking towards the entrance would be directed by the main ramp leading to a cafe space
FIRST LEVEL

The second level is a mix of social activities and living. The second level is a platform for connecting and wellness
SECONDLEVEL

The final level is a scenic terrace that acts as a communal garden gathering space
