Three Trapped Tigers
On their new album "Route One or Die" What's the concept behind the album? I wouldn't say there's any particular concept behind this album, not more so than there is behind the whole band generally. The concept if any is probably trying to synthesize quite a few of the things we did on our previous EPs into something more coherent across a longer form. That means not jumping around so much within songs and allowing stuff to How was the recording of "Route One develop a bit more. But it also meant finding eight particular environments for or Die"? each song to exist in, etc. It was fine. The usual: long days, lots of waiting around, lots of tea. Matt did more work than I did as he was producing whereas I didn't even have to turn up for some of it. Personally, I don't really enjoy recording all that much, but I'm pleased with the end product obviously. How did the band form? Matt and I were already playing together doing improvised things and Matt lived with Betts. I got a bit tired of improvising and wanted to write some material so knocked together some tunes for a 5piece band with Betts on the drums who I'd seen play a few times, and whose hardcore band had just disbanded. So we went from there, shedding two members along the way!
If your music were to be adapted to film, what story would it tell? Hmm... Probably some kind of ridiculous futuristic B-movie in which a bunch of rugsy 20th century losers save themselves against the odds from the evil robots who conquered the world, but in the process destroy themselves and everything that's worth living for, sending us back to the dark ages. What are your favorite albums at the moment? Luke Abbott, 'Holkham Drones'; Kuedo, 'Severant.' And I'm sure Matt would like to nominate Andy Stott's EP and LP.
