Waters
With the death of Port O'Brien last year, Van Pierszalowski went on a trip and stumbled into Norway. Now he is back with a new name and a new band. This is their story.
"Out In The Light" is now available for purchase at: http://www.thisiswaters.com It is also available for free streaming at GrooveShark
How did the band form?
Would you like to come to Portugal?
I started writing the songs during the final days I've been there before with Port O'Brien and of Port O'Brien. loved it so much! We played in Lisbon and it After a year-long break from playing music reminded me so much of San Francisco, with a band, I found some amazing guys in actually. The city has a very special feeling to Oslo, Norway to play with. After that, we it. I really would love to come back! rehearsed in Oslo, recorded in Texas, and have been touring ever since.
How was the recording of "Out In The Light"?
It was a great experience. We worked with an amazing producer, John Congleton, in his studio in Dallas. It was quite a culture shock going from Oslo to Dallas, but it I think that added to the overall experience. We we recorded incredibly fast, doing all the tracking in ten days. It never felt rushed at all, though. We even had time to go to Fort Worth Zoo on our last day, so my guitarist could see a tiger (which he apparently has dreamt of for his whole life).
What's the concept behind it?
I wouldn't say there's really a concept behind it all. It's just a record about what I've been going through over the last year or so. A lot of old things coming to ends, and new (and better) things starting.
What' was the hardest song to play and/or compose?
Thats a good question. I think it would have to be "If I Run." That song has been kicking around since the earliest days of Port O'Brien. I worked on the structure on the lyrics for so long I thought I was going insane. Then, when we were finally ready to record it, we totally reworked it again. Luckily, I am still very proud of the way it turned out.
What are your favorite albums at the moment?
Real Estate "Days", Papercuts "Fading Parade", Kurt Vile "Smoke Ring For My Halo" and Radiohead "The King of Limbs" .
