Ps. 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. • Early church understood that knowledge was not what changed the world, it was the power of God working through people.

2. Equality in Calling Unspoken, implied hierarchy of spiritual calling.

4. Local Church as an Equipper: Congregations are Called to Equip Believers for Societal Transformation

Local Church Mandate – Equip the Saints for Ministry in the Marketplace • Eph 4:11-13 • It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Legal Rights at Work You Can… •

Express your values in your business to employees and vendors

Express values in advertising

Discriminate for religious purposes for under 15 employees

Engage in religious speech at work as long as there is no actual imposition on co-workers or disruption of the work routine.

If other employees are permitted to use electronic mail and screen savers for speech that is not related to work, an employee who has a sincerely held religious belief to communicate their faith with others is also free to use these modes of communication.

Certain state’s laws are different.

. . .Legal Rights

You Can’t… •

Discriminate for religious purposes for over 15 employees

A company that allows employees to engage in non-work related conversations, such as those about politics, family, sports or other such topics, may not prohibit voluntary religious discussions between employees either.

Allow religious discussions to interfere with work.

Any employer—public or private—may restrict employee conversations with clients, patients or customers about religion.

Study Group Questions 1. Name the four attributes of a workplace witness that are cited in this chapter. 2. Read Daniel 1:19-20 and 6:1-3. What type of workers were Daniel and his friends? 3. Read John 14:12. What does it mean to “do what Jesus did in the context of your working life? Do miracles replace your work ethic? How would you define the importance of both concepts?
