021 is expected to be a big year for the EV sector as more vehicles with autonomous features enter the market. As supported by recent statistics from Statistics Canada, the adoption of electric vehicles has been gaining traction recently due to a growing investment in charging networks and the availability of more affordable mass-market EVs. At the municipal level, Victoria, B.C. leads the way with 12.9 per cent of Canada’s zero-emission vehicle market share, followed by Vancouver (10.9 per cent); Montreal (7.8 per cent); Quebec City (5.1 per cent); Ottawa (2.6 per cent); and Toronto (2.5 per cent). Now is the time to look into how your building will accommodate the need for EV charging stations. Various government incentive programs are now available, offering financial support for those who choose to install them. At the federal level, Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a 5-year $280 million program ending in 2024 that was launched to address the lack of charging and refuelling stations, which has been one of the key barriers to ZEV adoption.
