CEO’S MESSAGE David Hutniak, CEO, LandlordBC You still got to meet the people It is estimated that there are in the order of 4.1 billion internet users around the globe — that’s approximately 53 per cent of the world population — and 3.3 per cent billion active social media users, representing approximately 43 per cent of the population. These are insane numbers and pretty much confirm that to question the power of social media as a business owner is complete and utter folly. In the marketing world, the reach and influence of social media is regarded as one of the best brand awareness tools a business can employ and a key channel for marketing and advertising. Interestingly, while print and radio advertising has witnessed a decline, the continued consensus among marketers is that targeted print media like this trade and supplier directory, is an important channel for raising product/service awareness and ultimately building brand loyalty. You still got to meet the people As the title of my message indicated, no matter how much your business invests in and leverages social media, it is interesting that even in these highly digital and social media fueled times, experts agree you still got to meet the people. They agree that the notion of promoting your business at physical events is still a great way to grow your business. Trade shows have been around for many years as a mechanism to pull together a group of buyers and sellers organized around particular industries. While it may take some time to make back the money from the connections made, it is a great way to build your business. Prompt follow up is critical after these shows and many business owners overlook this element. Don’t assume that buyers will follow up with you, you will need to follow up with them in order to complete the sale. I share this message with you because we do hope that you will take advantage of the opportunities available to you because our supplier partners sponsor, exhibit and participate in our member events throughout the year. LandlordBC members highly value their relationships with you and appreciate knowing that they can
