hree leaders at Henlade Scout group in Taunton Deane simultaneously got their wood beads in February. Helen (CL), Adrian and Danny (SLs) managed to complete all their leadership training at a suitably similar pace meaning the wood beads came in a hatric. “My training experience has been fantastic,” said Helen. “All local and my TA Katherine Taylor was absolutely brilliant.”

Masterchefs

F

our Shepton Mallet Scouts are off to the South West Regional Scout Masterchef in March.

In January, Jack, Lewis, Harry and Ollie took part in the Somerset County Masterchef cooking against teams from around Somerset. They presented a Mexican style three course meal on equipment that they would only have in camping condition.

Training for the north

F

rome Scout Chris Brown is hoping to reach the North Pole with Scouts from around the UK. He’s currently training hard in Norway and hopes to be selected for the final group making the trip on skis across the last 2 degrees of latitude. Check out updates so far on YouTube:

crossing the globe’s oceans.

This is the challenge George Bayles, a Somerset Scouter from Yeovil is taking on.

The endeavour is made up of 15 different races over 8 legs and this is a no luxury pursuit. The yachts are stripped out to their bare minimum to allow for greater speed and manoeuvrability.

George had to apply to Clipper Round the World before being selected to join the team that will spend 12 months sailing a course

You can follow George’s ocean going adventure online:

The Network are taking to the hills of the Lake District for a weekend of hill walking training. Spaces are still available for leaders who wish to gain a basis in hill walking.

‘Cool as a Cucumber’ - this year’s Explorer Moot promises epic activities, awesome disco ‘fun times’ and equally as epic cucumber costumes at Huish Woods.

An event for Scouts and Explorers at the Frome showground. Competition camping and activities.
