About Me My aim as a designer is to ask questions that challenge the current systems in place, with the goal being to create solutions that offer new experiences that are harmonious with the end user’s lifestyle. I am fascinated with how things work, from the most complicated mechanism to the most simplistic detail and I enjoy finding a balance to make sure both are answered correctly. Through numerous projects with different clients, I have gained the ability to adapt to different design criteria and work effectively within a team . My increased awareness of what makes a product viable for market gives me realistic guidelines when exploring topics conceptually.

Initial Ideas Create the impression that the internal element is important and precious using laboratory and medical equipment as inspiration.
Development Refine the aesthetics to provoke a more user friendly response and encourage interaction.
Final Model The metallic finish and solid appearance of the outer casing promotes strength and sturdiness. The handle is shaped for the user to grip, twist and pull. This encourages interaction and provides access to the amber rods displayed within. The internal device creates a softer aesthetic with more rounded edges and a matt white finish. The base is shaped for fingers to grip and twist providing further interaction.
Light Cages A range of light cages that display and protect. The aesthetics are inspired by the shape and the internal filament of each bulb. (Placement 2012)

Circular City A response to the RSA design competition, transforming derelict buildings into housing by using pre-fabricated modules that slide into the existing frame.
Prevent Neglect & Waste Prefabrication Process - The factory produces the 6 sections of the pod - The sections are transported to the building site. - The disused building is stripped of all non supporting walls and features leaving the steel frame and floor slabs. - The 6 sections are craned into place and positioned using rollers then connected. The exterior facade is then attached.
Waste/Power/Heating
Transportation
Waste from the 4 modules combine and feed into a Saniflo Macerator which grinds it up. This waste is then pumped into the existing sewage pipes in the building.

Ventilation A double skinned facade contains a pocket of air. As this air warms, it rises, creating low pressure in the building. This draws the hot air out, replacing it with fresh air.
Lighting
Light tubes deflect natural daylight from the exterior to dark areas in the kitchen and the hallway.

Tilt Tray A tray that provides a level eating platform for any seating position featuring ergonomic handles suitable for people with hand dexterity problems.
Ergonomic
Hygienic
Culinary
Prototype A A - causes the user to bend their hand the most with the greatest curvature of the longitudinal arches with the main weight of the tray resting on the end of the fingers.
Prototype B B - spreads the load of the tray evenly over more of the fingers making it a better choice than A. However, the transversal carpal arch bends the most as it has to grip the tube.
Initial Ideas
Prototype C
Explore possible directions for the tray layout and create variations of different sized and shaped handle configurations for testing.
C - has the main weight of the tray resting on the base of the fingers with the least curvature to any of the hand arches making it the best handle.
Mechanisms/Testing
Picking up the tray allows the base to pivot to the correct angle for sitting.
When the tray is lowered the rubber grips connect creating a level eating platform.
Motive An office chair that adapts to the user’s posture and prevents prolonged periods of sitting motionless.

Blood Circulation
Using pressure sensors Motive is able to adapt so it is in a comfortable working position with the correct posture for any sized user.
Motive pulsates at an unnoticeable rate to help circulate the user’s blood and exercise their body. This will reduce fatigue and prevent blood from pooling in the legs, which can contribute to Varicose Veins and Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Barber Osgerby/MAP As a member of the Barber Osgerby and MAP team, I gained valuable experience in high quality furniture design and industrial product design. My main projects for Barber Osgerby were the Wood table for Vitra and the winning entry of the Oxford University Bodleian Library chair competition which recently featured in the V&A and is due to go into production this year.
M A P - Kano My biggest impact on a project while working for MAP was the Kano kit for the Raspberry Pi. I began this project individually up until the first client meeting when my work was reviewed and specific guidelines were set. This project created the opportunity to design packaging, electrical housings, graphical content and consider the user’s interaction with the different features.
Experience Taste Taste is a multi sensory experience and this research project explores the different culinary processes and traditions that alter the way that food and drink is perceived.
Sensory
Culture
Ritual
Culture Chinese - Indian - Japanese Culinary traditions create authentic tastes. Culture is reflected into cuisine and the use of specialist equipment and different styles of preparing and serving food show how the experience and process are linked creating a taste experience. The high heat wok cooking of the Chinese cuisine, the charred meats and breads from an Indian Tandoor oven and the precision, delicacy and presentation of Sushi all show value placed on different experiencesÂŹ that impact the perception of taste.
Rituals English - Japanese - Indian Rituals are often personal and deeply ingrained into people’s lifestyles. Great importance is placed on following a specific process, as the sense of satisfaction is much greater than if the routine is not followed. The cultural significance of the experience is reflected by the method of preparation and way it is served. The English tea and dinner set link to the British afternoon tea, suggesting a more formal and civilised occasion. The Japanese tea ceremony set and bamboo serve ware show a deeper spiritual connection to the ritual as emphasis is placed on each feature. The basic utensils used in the Indian rituals reflect the street style of cooking that runs through Indian cuisine

Context Tea is a drink that has many levels of significance. To some it is a quick, easy-to-make hot beverage and to others it has a deep spiritual meaning. Loose-leaf tea attracts people who care about taste and this desire for a cup of tea that is above the easily available tea bag creates the opportunity for a product that delivers results and an experience. The preparation of tea to some is seen as a ritual and if a product can be adopted into this ritual it will become a meaningful possession.

User Testing The observation and analysis of how people use different utensils and tea sets revealed what aspects are essential to be included in the range.

Tea Experts Feedback Stuart Archer Pumphreys Tea Supplier “Water has an underrated importance in the quality of a cup of tea, so if the quality of the tap water is poor it must be filtered to remove the minerals and prevent tea scum.
Outcome A water filter is provided with the set. A refillable filter cartridge ensures water will always be to the highest standard when making a cup of tea.
Feedback Linda Lisser Ringtons Responsible Sourcing Manager Linda suggested that the brand should be linked with the tea’s origin promoting the natural qualities that are associated with loose tea.
Outcome The logo combines the tea leaf and bud with the distinct name chai relating the brand to the natural properties of tea and its long history.
How chai works
Step 1 Select your ingredients.
Step 2 Load the infuser.
Step 3 Filter water
Step 4 Set the temperature/timer
Grind spices, juice some fruit, experiment with a new blend or stick with you personal favourite.
Add the desired amount of your selected ingredients into the infuser.
It is important to have fresh clean water that is low in mineral content to produce the best results.
Adjust the inner dial and induction dial to align with the correct temperature.
Step 5 Set the timer
Step 6 Watch the infusion take place
Twist the exterior of the infuser to set the steeping time.
As the temperature rises the centre gauge will turn and when it reaches the desired temperature will pop up and the timer will begin.
Step 7 Push the plunger to end the infusion, serve and enjoy!
