Nicknamed Galway’s ‘hidden museum’, the James Mitchell Geology Museum has a large collection of rare rocks and precious gems on display. Tucked away upstairs in the Quadrangle building, its charming setting takes you back in time to when the University first began in 1845.

This museum is located in the Martin Ryan Institute, the home of our Environmental, Marine and Energy research. The collection includes an array of stuffed animals - both native and exotic and some rare glass models of marine creatures. Children will love the fish tank at the entrance to the museum, where Nemo himself likes to swim!
The Hardiman Building is home to the University’s Library and is a hub of research into the Arts and Humanities. In the foyer, you will find exhibitions of treasures from our Library collection throughout the year, while the Special Collections Reading Room can be used to access specific items from our vast historical, political and cultural archives.
