INSIDE THE BOARDROOM BACK UNDER THE LIGHTS AND WITH A NEW KICK OFF TIME TO ENSURE THAT WE REMAIN COMPLIANT WITH GOVERNMENT DIRECTIVES Good Evening Everyone. It gives me great pleasure to welcome top of the table Eynesbury Rovers to Creasey Park this evening and we wish all their playing and coaching staff, committee, and supporters an enjoyable evening and a safe journey home. Last season honours were shared with a victory each, both games finishing 2-1 in favour of the home team. The home tie at Creasey Park on March 3rd was our lowest home gate of the season, so we are keeping fingers crossed that history does not repeat itself this evening. We have now had three home games in the League and attendances have averaged 138 which is an increase of 20% on last season. Despite going two goals down on Saturday the lads showed real determination and passion to get back on level terms before half time and played their part in a good spectacle of fast flowing football which was an excellent advert for the Club in particular and the non-league game in general.

gate receipts with Crawley Green, to Richard Scott for organising a Regimental whip round and then to the AFC guys who matched our donation of ÂŁ150. It is equally pleasing to know that Kings Langley, Leverstock Green & Biggleswade Utd have also pledged support for Crawley Green which shows there is still plenty of solidarity left at lower league levels. Thank for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday 27th October when we play Edgware Town at Creasey Park. Kick off will be 7.30pm. Before then on Saturday we travel the short distance to play Harpenden. We had good support away at Arlesey last Tuesday and it was greatly appreciated by Gareth, Ryan, and the players. Finally, a word of thanks to both Pete Burrows and Callum Wylde who have resigned from the Committee. We wish them well and hope to see them at Creasey Park as often as they can.

Players are starting to return from injury and suspension, and I know Gareth & the coaching team are keen to turn good performances into points and get higher up the table. Saturday’s game against Crawley Green was remarkable for the generosity of our fans and the coming together of the football family to help Crawley Green who are forbidden from having spectators in the Brache for their home games. Special credit to Matt Carrington for coming up with the idea to share a portion of the

EYNESBURY ROVERS

OPPOSITION SPOTLIGHT..

EYNESBURY ROVERS WERE FORMED IN 1897 AND PLAYED FRIENDLY MATCHES BEFORE JOINING THE BIGGLESWADE & DISTRICT LEAGUE And then the St Neots Junior League, which they won in 1910/11 and 1913/14. They lifted the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup for the first time in 1914 and won the County Junior Cup in 1921, 1927 and 1932. Whilst the first team competed in the Bedford & District League First Division Eynesbury’s Reserves won 2nd Division championships in 1927, 1931 and 1932. In 1934 Eynesbury joined the South Midlands League and promotion was achieved at the first attempt whilst the Scott-Gatty Cup was won, but Senior Cup finals in 1937 and 1939 ended in defeat. The post war era began with Rovers joining the United Counties League and they enjoyed spectacular cup success winning the Hunts Senior Cup and Hinchingbrooke Cup four times each in a five-year period. In the 195051 campaign a Premier Cup success made it a cup hat trick.

6 - DUNSTABLE TOWN V EYNESBURY ROVERS

In 1952 Eynesbury joined the Eastern Counties League finishing fourth in their second season. In 1955 a crowd of 4,000 packed into Hall Road to watch a friendly against Fulham with the legendary Stanley Matthews guesting for Rovers. The club continued to enjoy cup success lifting the Senior Cup in 1955 and 1957, the Hinchingbrooke Cup in 1959 and Cambs Invitation Cup in 1962, but they were finding life difficult in the league. In 1963 they rejoined the UCL. Successes in the Hinchingbrooke Cup in 1967 and Hunts Senior Cup in 1970 masked a continued decline and relegation was suffered in 1972. A topflight place was regained in 1977 and floodlights were installed in 1981 with Luton Town providing the opposition for the official opening in front of a four-figure crowd. The Hunts Senior Cup was won in 1985 before Gary Pilsworth enjoyed great success as manager, leading Eynesbury

to a best ever third place in the league, two Hunts Senior Cup wins, a Premier Cup success and two East Anglian Cup finals, and Alan Day kept the momentum going with a 1993 Senior Cup success. Barry Cavilla was next in the hot seat and the 1995-96 campaign saw Eynesbury finish fifth in the league and win both the Senior and Premier Cups. Peter Schofield took over and done well to keep the team in the Premier Division on a small budget. Neil King returned and enjoyed success in the Hunts Senior Cup in 2000 but was followed by relegation a year later. Steve Galbraith took over and in 2002 Rovers again won the Senior Cup beating local rivals St Neots Town 3-0 in the final, while the 2003-04 campaign saw them reach the Huntingdonshire Premier Cup final only to lose 4-2 to Wootton Blue Cross. In the summer of 2005 Dean Shipp took charge and the following season Rovers reached the final of the South Midlands Floodlit Cup losing 2-1 to Saffron Walden. In December 2007 Rovers appointed the management duo of Al Lenihan and former player Pat O’Keeffe. Season 2008/09 saw Rovers near the top of the table for most of the season but had to settle for 9th place after being deducted six points. Al & Pat resigned at the end of that season and Eynesbury appointed Matt Plumb to take charge for the start of the 2009/10 campaign and with Martin Field he guided Rovers back to the Premier Division in 2013/14. In a record-breaking season, they finished with a record number of points (98) and goals (118) and recorded a club record 11 consecutive wins. Lee Bassett became the first Eynesbury player to score 50 goals in a season. Matt Plumb took on the role of chairman in the summer of 2015 before Martin Field resigned in October 2015. Mark Ducket was appointed as manager and in four campaigns he has led Rovers to three Hunts Senior Cup Finals, winning 1-0 against St Neots Town in 2017.

MATCH REPORT DUNSTABLE TOWN 3-3 CRAWLEY GREEN A dramatic, seesawing game ultimately saw the points shared on Saturday, when Crawley Green made the short journey to Creasey Park. Dunstable started the game in the ascendency, playing a fast and flowing game, finding joy down the flanks, but midway through the first half, Crawley Green had a brace of decent chances, the second of which saw a stunning save from Blues goalkeeper Dan Gould, tipping Phil Draycott’s thunderbolt onto the post. Town had a number of outstanding performers on the day, and two such players linked up well for the home side’s best chance of the opening exchanges when Leo Pedro’s hard work allowed him to get a ball into the middle, but Khy Smith-Reid was outmuscled in the middle. When Dunstable failed to clear a corner just after the half-hour mark, Crawley Green took the lead somewhat against the run of play, and then extended that lead through a Draycott header ten minutes later. A forty-fifth minute penalty won and converted by Chris Stapleton looked to have given hope to Blues fans for a resurgent second half, but when Evans Lamboh looped a header past the goalkeeper in time added on to restore parity, the home side were firmly in control.

when the ball got caught between his feet, but a stepover allowed him the leverage to blast a shot into the near-post top corner, to the delight of the home fans. Pedro started the second half in scintillating style, creating a good scoring opportunity for himself with a deft first-time flick on, but George Rose in the Crawley Green goal saved well with his foot. Having taken the lead, the Blues looked to extend the advantage, and it was Pedro again at the centre of things, twisting the visiting right-back’s gizzards this way and that, before delivering a cross which Stapleton could only direct onto the crossbar. With twelve minutes left to play, Dunstable gave away a cheap free-kick on the right, which ultimately led to the final goal of the game, a glancing header from Glenn Cooksley to make it 3-3. Neither side seemed happy to settle for the draw though, and the final ten minutes saw chances for both sides to nick it, with Gould making another fantastic save in stoppage time to deny the visitors a victory.

On a day when Dunstable Town were donating a portion of gate receipts to the away side due to their fans being prohibited from attending home games, the Blues were hoping to show no such generosity on the field. Town managed to complete the turnaround thirteen minutes after the restart, with SmithReid receiving the ball to the right of the penalty area; the chance looked to have gone
